Forums - Politics Discussion - Brexit discussion thread- UPDATE: the majority chose leave!

Should Britain stay or leave?

Stay! 185 48.43%

Leave! 197 51.57%

Total:382

So, Britain will now become Europe's bitch. The economy will have to go through certain difficulties. They could take the same way as norway, but will have to follow EU's rules without having a vote in anything anymore and pay for it. In no way will Europe make it easy for Britain in the near future. Too bad that the majority of people rather listens to populists than dealing with the actual facts.
Nationalism is on the rise again in Europe,... a sad day indeed.

Interesting times. I think this is a catalyst for more. The UK could fall apart. Here in The Netherlands there's already calls for a similar referendum. We should see what impact this has on the UK though, I just hope our government is smart enough to be redrafting some trade agreements right now. It wouldn't exactly be in both our countries' interests, as big partners, to complicate any dealings between each other.

Anyway the EU leadership brought this upon themselves. They meddle in way too many things. I am a supporter of free and open trade and free movement of goods and people, but not of the rules and regulations from Brussels that try to steer how we are supposed to run and live in our, independant, country.

Not necessarily, Britain is much bigger than Norway so it has a better position for negotiations. More importantly, if the EU makes it to difficult for them, the UK could start flirting with the U.S. And that's something they can't afford.

And just because people are fed up with the EU as an institution does not mean they don't want to work together with the rest of Europe.

I agree

Britain's major problem with the EU is the migration part, they don't want their country to become multinational and lose its identity and culture, which is absolutely normal and understandable, as it is the only country in the EU whose language is English, so it makes it the absolute destination for work

also, almost every mass media states "Britain leaves the EU"!! so is it 100% official or not?

I believe it would be wiser from both parties to re-negotiate the migration part and let the people re-vote after 6 months or so, the difference of 2% is just too small to be decisive

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

All I know is: Switzerland had huge negotiations with Europe. The same won't happen a second time. After Britain leaving Europe they won't reach out their hands for them. EU will make it as difficult as they can for the Brits. Sure they could go for the US. But what has the UK to offer what the other states don't have? They are not an industry anymore.

Looks like Scotland will have a second referendum and this time the likelyhood of Scotland becoming independent will be huge.

It's official. Cameron will stay on for 3 months, and his replacement will start the exit negotiations at some point after that. But it will be a gradual unravelling over some years, so I understand.

The difference was 4% - but even so, yes, very small.

I thought it was under 2%. 48.1 to 51.9%.

Jeremy Corbyn has been voted out on no confidence.

I wish that it will be an occasion to reform the EU. I hope that one day EU will look more like my country.

Money, we import and export a lot. Sure maybe not all with EU nations but a lot. Booze especially. I think we rank 2nd in booze export and import for example.

Might might be over our industrial revolution but there's a lot we do produce.

The vote should have been about that. No one really had an issue with the EU as a whole, they had an issue with what it had become. Sadly, people can't see that you can't just ditch something if you think it's lost, you should try to fix it. Lots of the weird rules and regulations needed to be thrown out and EU should have had actually elected officials too.

Hmm, pie.
