Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A strong indication of NX using cartridges found.

Discs have evolved to, besides discs are cheaper. And ultra hd blu ray drives have a pretty decent bandwith.

Problem with discs is also the drive, you save some cost of the hardware as a result of not needing moving parts of a disc drive so it's not a straight up case of it being cheaper as the format also affects the hardware. Less moving parts also means more reliability.

I would argue that it has more to do with install base than it does with difference in the tech.  Look at PS3 and 360 last gen, they both largely got the same 3rd party support yet their architecture was very different.  If Nintendo doesn't grow their console base, and a really quick way to do so would be shared library, then the 3rd parties wont care how easy the port is, they wont invest.

That's certainly a factor too but if porting between WiiU and 3DS was easy, third parties would be able to develop content for 3DS and at the same time put out content for a userbase of an additional 12.9 million.

Sure, but at that point you might as well just do a shared library.

I think the idea is dope. Have little artwork on the cartridge and everything, haha.

Besides, it's not like Nintendo's games have a lot of cutscenes and voice acting anyway. I can see this working for them.

I don't disagree at all. NX should become the sole platform Nintendo outputs software to going forward.

If Ever Oasis is marked incorrectly, then there is a high chance it's just a goof up

More evidence for my thesis that Kimishima wants the NX to fail. If NX has Cartridges I'm sure Third Party Support will be DOA. People are not willing to pay 10 more dollars for Third Party Games if they can also get them on PS4 much cheaper.

There's been more substantial evidence of NX using memory carts in the past so no surprises here.
I'm sure Nintendo have had a hard time making an open world game running straight from a disc so it would have been a big motivating factor to switch to flash memory.

other companies make open world games on disc all the time

Day one buy if true

I don't think any businessman in the right mind (including Kimishima) would want their products to fail. Besides, this is still a rumor. It's more likely that the NX will use discs like the PS4 and Xbox One than game cards, anyway.

Anyway, you seem to be bashing Nintendo a lot lately. This is pretty much my question regarding your Nintendo bashing:

Yeah never said it can't be done, but they have their limitations like access speed and response time, so they rely more on HDD install's and RAM.
