What is this based on?

Based on that last part that you didn't bold.  You think the software output was bad on one HD platform?  Imagine if they had a second one.

It wouldn't be very hard if both of those HD platforms were very similar. Third parties have little trouble putting out software on both ps4 and x1. x360 and ps3 got many of the same games too from the same developers/publishers despite the differences between the two.

And yet third parties aren't Nintendo as was mentioned in the post you referenced.  And, third parties haven't exactly been on board with Nintendo consoles recently, just their handheld.  So if the libraries are separate, that probably won't change.

That's an interesting rumor. I wouldn't mind going back to carts.

Considering how radically different the WiiU and 3DS are, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

I would argue that it has more to do with install base than it does with difference in the tech.  Look at PS3 and 360 last gen, they both largely got the same 3rd party support yet their architecture was very different.  If Nintendo doesn't grow their console base, and a really quick way to do so would be shared library, then the 3rd parties wont care how easy the port is, they wont invest.

They likely just copied all videogame related terms when filing the trademark.

It also says video game memory cards. NX confirmed to use memory cards!

If, as I've previously speculated that the NX is a home console with a wiiU style tablet that can actually be taken on the go, then the two highlights don't actually sound that strange. A portable would most likely make use of memory cards and cartridges.

I have been digital only for ages now, so as long as I can just download the games it doesn't really matter to me what format they use...

I hope. :)

I hope this is true. If so, it would increase the chance I buy one.

That's certainly a factor too but if porting between WiiU and 3DS was easy, third parties would be able to develop content for 3DS and at the same time put out content for a userbase of an additional 12.9 million.
