Forums - Gaming Discussion - Girl gamers - Overwatch: 17-Year-Old Female Pro Player Cleared of Cheating Accusations Following Live Demo

Not entirely sure, but it sounds like those two guys have been in the competitive esports scene for a while and got their pride shattered by the 17 year old newcomer. I don't think they were angry just because they lost to a girl but also the fact how she was new to the scene and dominated them with ease. Its like working at a company for 5 years and then suddenly a new, comparable employee fresh out of college is put in a higher position than you after working in the same job and for a lot less time. Gotta give them credit though for giving their word and quiting, most people wouldn't do the same.

There is a news story trending on facebook, about a 17 year-old korean chick who can kick some serious ass at Overwatch. Her name is Geguri, and apparently she was so good that two men vowed to quit competitive gaming if she was proven to not be cheating, because they couldn't believe it.

Ultimately she showed her skills live, and it was proven she was legit. The guys kept their word to quit the competitive scene, and that's how the story ends.

I know that I have personally gotten my ass handed to me by girl players on Smash bros U online, and have seen some videos of our own pwrlevelamy being awesome at Mario Maker.

I could never be of the opinion of the two boys who refused to accept that she was just good. I have seen girls really beat me hard at games, and am convinced they are just as good if not better at times than guys, even though games are more often played by guys in general.

At least they apologized.

I think it's been proven that men have better reaction times. Not 100% positive on that but pretty sure. So it's not surprising that overall men would be better at video games. WIth that said there is always an exception to the rule.

While you are correct, it's only by a tiny margin.

Ah ok makes sense. I wasn't sure exactly how big of a difference it made.

Good to see Overwatch is already having a pro leagues.

We're talking about a 2-3 millisecond difference, or 0.002-0.003 seconds.

I'm not sure if they're talking about her gender, or just about being a 17 years-old newcomer to the competitive scene. If it's about the gender, they're pretty stupid tbh.

Of course Kotaku has to make it about her being a woman.

Playing against sore losers is nothing new. Even as a kid the controller was to blame or other player was cheating. Online before people know any details such as your sex there are all sorts of excuses of how you "didn't play right" or used "hacks" or simply "have no life" to be good at it. Throwing in age, sex, race, nationality, just gives an outlet to focus impotent rage.

i'm soo bad at competitive that i swear almost everyone cheats.

I am right there with you.  I am the only honest player left, that is why my stats are so average/awful.
