Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Windows Update is a joke.

I fully believe at least 80-90% of problems people have with windows are user error.

Well, not this one. The forums and the internet are filled with complaints and articles explaning possible solutions. The average user doesn't care about security updates, so it's hard to imagine them going online, registering in MS forums and complaining. I bet most complaints are not coming from your usual clueless PC consumer.

Not to mention, MS has acknowledged the issue. Released MUTLIPLE fixes for it, because the first one didn't solve it, and I am seeing lots of recent complaints concerning the same issue. Hell, in this very thread there is a similarly affected indivisual.

Same here, took a whole day with 2 factory resets to get windows 7 back up and running after windows 10 fudged up my old laptop, which stayed fudged after the 'painless' revert. Why is it so hard to install all updates after a clean install. The only thing that works reliably is the 'get windows 10' popup every morning.

Fantastic tool to get rid of the GWX and to remove any wasted space on C that win10 would be consuming. I got a bonus 10gb of space on my SSD from this tool, costly space to be filled with files for an OS I don't want.

I'm sorry but I rather not mess with it any more. I had already removed it once and all updates stopped working. When I got the updates working again gwx came back and had scheduled me for an automatic update, which I cancelled in time. Now it's simply nag ware. I'm keeping an eye on the GWX files. Yeah the $Windows.~BT folder has 7.2GB of windows 10 malware ready (16,536 files and 3,538 directories WTF), yet I don't really need it with 600GB savailable. It would be worse if it started downloading that again on my capped internet after removing it.
As long as it pops up every day, it will remind me not to get windows 10...

I've been having trouble installing Win10 from my Win8.1 for months now. I have absolutely zero knowledge about computers and can't for the life of me understand why it doesn't update fully. It will stop in the middle of the update and say it's reverting back to the previous version of Windows. After 12 tries, I finally gave up.

That folder is such a costly piece of shit, not only does it cost you bandwidth if you have a cap but like I said, I've got a 240gb ssd as my windows drive so close to 10gb of that is 1/24th of my SSD storage... which I most certainly did not want to use on junk files.

Just be wary of that GWX I heard that it was changed recently so that X'ing it was confirmation to upgrade it at some point when your PC was idle. I wouldn't be so against windows 10 if not for how terrible the rollout has been and how GWX is akin to a virus downloading files against your will without confirmation and threatening to alter your OS unless you ask it very nicely not to.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I just upgraded recently actually and kept all my programs. No problems what so ever.

So install a different os. Problem solved.

Anyhow... user error.

Did you read the OP?

The eternal "checking for updates" on both windows 7/8 is a very common bug when it requires a lot of patching.

in fact if you google "checking f" by that stage google will suggest

an issue 1 worse than testicle cancer. Should at least attempt to read OP before reacting to the title at a guess?.

Same here. My laptop just updated without asking (I only left it turned on while for some hours while I was at work). Now everything runs like shait. Thank you M$.
I'll just format and go back to Win 7, sooner or later.

Haha!

You're lying btw, or it's country specific

If so, why do so many people have lice in Canada, ack!

You're both wrong. It's user-specific. Google is known for personalizing search results, and I'm sure it's more or less the same for search suggestions.

Cannot comment on updating since I bought my laptop with win 10. I think the OS work quite well, but I do not like the aggressive (repetitive) advertisings of Office 365 which keeps on popping up. Also other preinstalled software does that, and you get a feeling that win 10 is a advertising platforn.
