Why is no one asking the important question!!!

Will we have to blow in the cartridges?

Please yes.

You have to blow them to get the dlc out... on your knees!

I don't really care if its discs or cartridges, but digital only is not my type (I would still buy the NX though)

Pocky Lover Boy!

spemanig, do you still expect the system to be digital only?

Hi, guys, this is Ray Stochel on for Dave. Good afternoon. What level of insight can you share on rumors the new Nintendo console is shifting from disc-based games to cartridges? And if you can't specifically comment on that, can you discuss any historical economic differences between cartridges and discs for the pre-owned business?

Paul Raines, GameStop Corporation - CEO [39]

We saw those rumors, and so obviously we can't comment on them. I don't think we know anything about it anyway.

But certainly for us, physical media is a good thing, right? As far as the historical, guys, anybody have any thoughts on that?

Rob Lloyd, GameStop Corporation - CFO [40]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't remember anything distinctly different between economics of pre-owned whether or not it was disc or cartridge based. Mike, do you?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Mauler, GameStop Corp - President of International [41]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only difference would be on the refurbishment and pre-owned side. And actually, cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction on used.

But it is early, guys, and we have got to all keep cool heads. Certainly I would say that the fact that there are rumors of that type just confirms for you that this is an important console for next year. It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we're excited about that.

And of course we love Nintendo IP. So it's all good news.

That's the actual transcript. He's speculating. He doesn't know if it has carts and he doesn't know if it has physical media. None of them do. Nothing to see here.

So I guess this means you haven't started drafting your "I was dead wrong about the NX being digital only" thread apology yet...

YES YES YES OH GOD YES PLEASE LET IT BE CARTRIDGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE ICELAND!

Did you skip over this little bit where he says it "WILL HAVE" physical media? Not it "COULD" have, not it "MAY" have, but it "WILL HAVE". That to me seems pretty definite, and I think they know more, but cannot comment more than anything else.

It doesn't matter how he worded it. He prefaced the entire response by saying that none of them knew anything about it. He doesn't need to use language like could or May after that. He already disclosed his knowledge on the subject. He may be confident that there will be physical media, but that is merely an assumption based off of what he literally admits in the second sentence to be nothing.

"I don't know" means "I don't know," not "I don't know, only yes I do know but it's a secret I can't tell you, only I'll tell you anyway and here's what it is."

@JGarret, yes I do. And I expect it to use NFC tech to supplement physical media.

Cartridges would be cool but I wonder how they will fit the next Xenoblade in a cartridge :P

What's crazy is major third party developers don't have dev kits yet. No third party support for NX confirmed. But that is fine if the NX is priced right. An inexpensive Nintendo console to sit besides my shiny new PS4 NEO is fine by me.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

And how would you know that?

Also, Ubisoft has a game announced for the NX. So there is some support, albeit small as of what we know. Also Tecmo Koei has stated they will develop for the NX. So theres that at least.

It will most likely have use discs.
