Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: Nintendo NX to be As Powerful as PS4 Neo, Announcement Coming September

Take it with huge grain of salt.

Disclaimer: This is a rumor, and should be taken with a grain of salt. However, the source is one of the largest French gaming publications, so it would be naive to dismiss the publication without at least a bit of legitimacy.

According to the French publication Gameblog.fr, the Nintendo NX was originally meant for a launch at the end of this year. However, due to some game delays and other factors, the console was delayed to 2017. The reported specs are about equal to PS4 Neo, but are not “cutting-edge technology.” The platform will feature new games like Zelda and more, but several remasters as well, such as Skyward Sword, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. The console also has several third-party exclusives in development, reportedly from Square Enix and Capcom.

The article also mentions that a full NX reveal will come in September, likely around the time of TGS.

I'll believe it when I see it.

It has been confirmed that the console will be reveal in the Fall, so we'll see.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Hmmm...now if only we knew what the actual specs of the PS4 Neo is lol

Nintendolife sumarised the article

Ah, it's that time, dear readers. With E3 having passed and Nintendo (and many others) having a quiet spell, it's the period of rumours, sources and secret handshakes. Sizeable French outlet Gameblog is the latest to pitch in with its reports on the NX - as is always the case these should be treated with plenty of salt and a healthy level of scepticism.

We'll summarise the key points below, as we interpret the source article:

  • NX was originally planned for a November release, but was pushed back
  • Power-wise (that old chestnut) it's being related again to the upcoming PS4K / PlayStation Neo. This comparison has been made in the past, and has also been denied by others.
  • Some third-party exclusives are reportedly in the works, by the likes of Capcom and Square Enix. The delay may be to await projects like these.
  • Skyward Sword is claimed to be getting the remaster treatment, while major franchises like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. are naturally in the works.
  • In terms of the operating system Android is mentioned as being related, which again has been claimed and denied in the past. There's talk of support for up to eight controllers, though that's actually a feature of the Wii U in any case.
  • Nintendo wants to avoid the price of the hardware getting too high.
  • A September reveal is on the cards, potentially tied into the Tokyo Game Show.

Perhaps Gameblog's sources will be proven valid on some points, perhaps not. A number of individuals have earnestly claimed insider knowledge, yet there have been enough contradictions and errors (even when sources are supposedly 'authenticated') to ensure that, at best, rumours only give us interesting talking points.

So, what do you think of this batch of information? Feasible, fantasy, a mix of both? Would a September reveal fit well with a target launch of March? Let us know in the comments.

Thanks to all that sent this in.

I'm all in favour of power, but Nintendo needs to make sure 3rd parties are going to be on board, bacause if they aren't, Nintendo is going to get stuck with a console more powerful (and expensive) that what they really need.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Was this "rumor" supposed to be funny?

An Skyward Sword remaster that soon? Unless the NX has motion controls, how would that even work?
This sounds iffy, but who knows. I don't think this rumor is true, but I do think they'll be showing the NX around September.

Funny rumour. We don't anything about the Neo except it exists.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Bad news for those fans who think power is bad.

Still, though, that would be odd. That would give NX the clear power advantage over everything, as Neo and Scorpio are graphical updates only (at least, that's what we're being told at this point). If this is true then it gives NX games far more headroom.

Which makes you wonder, is that necessary? Is that worth having a higher price? For third-party multi-plats, it would be absolute overkill and do Nintendo first-party developers need all that horsepower?

I find this hard to believe, though it would be interesting if true.
