It feels a safer bet now than ten years ago. The foreign market (especially China) has boomed for these big budget type films so my guess is it will turn a profit even if it under preforms domestically.

Not sure if I can stand a crappy CGI movie anymore. I believe I'll pass on this one. Part of me that wants it to bomb like Battleship (although it looks like that movie even made 83 million profit in box office). I don't understand who watches all these shitty movies in the theaters. Hell, I waited for new Star Wars to come out at Redbox and I still feel that I was almost ripped off. I suppose I'm just a cheap bastard.

That is why the premise of this thread fails. Kids still exist. |
I don't know, do you see the onslaught of quality titles kids are getting in film and on television these days? As much as I liked my stuff as a kid I must admit to some envy, kids are being treated like adults.
That said, kids could certainly still like it. While a cliche-laden film might seem tired to an adult, those cliches are still rather new to kids heh

He was filming Squad during ID4 2's filming. There was no way around it. |
From Wikipedia: "In October 2011, however, discussions for Will Smith returning were halted, due to Fox's refusal to provide the $50 million salary demanded by Smith for the two sequels."
Yes, they are crazy. I really don't think Roland Emmerich is worth that kind of money anymore. This movie's gonna be so bad, I'm not feeling any heat from it at all.
$200 million is hardly a lot.
2012's Battleship cost more and that was based on a board game.
The first film to cost $200 million came out 19 years ago.
Using inflation $200 million today is the equivalent of Batman and Robin's budget in 1997. So lets hope ID4 Resurgence does better.

Is that the name of the son ? In that case I 100% agree, After Earth especially was an awful movie Imho but I think Will still has quite a draw, I exoect his next 3/4 movies to be particularly good to "clean" his immage, that includes Suicide Squad of course

For this movie? Yes. He's the main actor most people remember from the original.

They should've just payed it. Marvel pays their stars more than that.

I think he has drawing power. Even if his star faded a bit in the US, the international market will be strong. As a very US-centric film, it would need it. The international numbers saved a lot of blockbusters (Pacific Rim, Terminator Genisys, Warcraft, X-men Apocalypse).
But well, 50M is a hefty sum. Anyway, if they put 200M on it it's because they are expecting decent numbers.
Not really. As an example, Warcraft cost $160 million but with china alone, it should make their money back and then some. Independance day should do well in the states (unlike warcraft) and globally (china).
