The problem with launching the NX with Zelda: BotW is that Zelda has never been a huge system seller. There is a rumor about another game launching with the NX that will sell TONS of systems.

Yes, that's right. Luigi's Mansion HD.

While true, it has been a systemseller, 14 zelda games has sold over 3 million copies. And this is probably the most hyped Zelda game ever even more so than OoT for the N64. It's always been kind of niche, but going the way they have with the game I can totally see it getting a new audience or even recapture a lost audience. I know that is the case in my neighbourhood of friends, they havnt been Nintendo owners for years (GC, N64) but after seeing the Zelda trailer and gameplay many of them said they were first day buyers. And I can imagine that is the case for many.

What I am trying to say, I do believe Zelda will be a killer app for the NX. =)

That is not true, NES Zelda was system seller, same like ALTTP for SNES, not to mention that OoT for N64 and Zelda TP for Wii were also huge system sellers. And now we have one of most hyped Nintendo games ever (new Zelda is most talked E3 game on internet and socilal media, Zelda E3 trailer become most vieved Nintendo Youtube video ever..) and what is seems like one of best Zelda ever, like launch title for completely new platform. I just keep seeing coments of people who saying they will buy NX for this game even they dont know what NX exatly is.

Just look comments on this thread, basically every second comment saying that this Zelda sold them a NX.

Zelda will be killer app for RX and it give wings to NX to take off.

And Mario 64 sold 11 million copies. A big Mario adventure game should have been the launch game for NX if Nintendo is really serious about getting a large installed base fast.

I know Zelda BotW is going to be awesome and sell well, but a new benchmark Mario game would have did better sales wise for launching the NX.

But if we can't have Mario for NX launch, maybe we will get Luigi and some ghosts.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

Nintendo can have a great start with the nx with the right software lineup, but zelda alone isn't enough, and in japan seems at the moment that only mobile counts

No droughts. Keep the software comin. 1st or 3rd party, do not allow droughts on the NX.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

100 % correct. Nintendo really needs to add more internal development teams. They need to start the NX off with at least one high quality, good selling game a month for the first year. The fact that rumors suggest Smash Wii U and other Wii U games are getting ported to NX does not sound good. Not having good third party support means Nintendo has to keep a system alive pretty much by themselves and they just don't have the software output to do it. And major third party devs don't have dev kits yet!?!?!  Crazy.

Mario 64 was totally groundbreaking though. A benchmark if there ever was one. I would totally approve of a Mario 3D game at launch hehe, but if we get it in the holidays instead? I am ok with that :>

Step 1. Release the console with an actual, new game. Not a remake.

Step 2. Call the console something that actually appeals to people. Not something ambiguous that makes it look like a very expensive add on to an older console.

Step 3. Hype Hype Hype. Actually market without including 4 goofy, over smiling people, sitting on a couch, fist bumping eachother while sipping non alcoholic beer.

Step 4. Release the thing at a good time (already failed)

lol yea to this day so many people still think Wii U is just some sort of tablet addon thingy, Shows how bad naming can really hurt.

For this post I'll take Moffitt's statements as the truth of what's going on at Nintendo. He made four points:

1. Having the right content. - Nintendo will make a serious effort to create games that the market wants to buy, unlike in the eighth generation when their developers were free to do what they wanted.

2. A clear positioning. - Hardcore gamers will be excluded. It looks like Nintendo has realized that hardcore gamers are lying about what they want from Nintendo, meaning that hardcore gamers won't buy Nintendo hardware anyway, because what they really want is Nintendo as a third party publisher. So when NX is unveiled, it will be clear that the platform wasn't made for the hardcore.

3. Showcase all the things that make Nintendo great. - The focus of the NX reveal will be first party software. This will be a giant step up from the Wii U reveal where third party software took priority and CEO's from companies like Ubisoft, EA and Warner Bros. wasted precious stage time that should have been spent on games that actually mattered.

4. Third party content/a tendency to focus on certain titles of certain third party publishers. - This answer gives it away that Nintendo isn't planning with the typical multiplatform games in mind. They don't expect to get them, so NX will be designed to suit the right content, and going from there, third party support will be picked up by selling a lot of hardware.

That's four points where Nintendo has all the right ideas, backed up by video game sales history. This is a good sign.
