Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Opinion: Gears 4 And Scalebound Don't Look Too Good

I thought GeoW looked good but yeah, ever since last year's E3, I've grown to HATE that"witty banter" between characters that all video games do, now. They all sound like 90's ninja turtles to me. It totally turned me off from buying Destiny just because of the trailers.

Truth be told, I haven't watched E3 like I usually do. I don't feel excited. I've only seen trailers for about 3 or 4 games (Forza, Gears, Zelda, and GoW). I don't know if Scalebound looks good or not. I'll have to look it up some time.

Amen. So tired of that. It pops up everywhere.

@OP: I have mixed feelings about Gears of War. Multiplayer is great, but I'm not sold on the campaign. The voice acting/writing was rough, and the levels seemed scripted.

As for Scalebound, I'm bullish. There's some great talent working the game. I wouldn't put too much stock in the footage so far. According to Kamiya, Platinum streamlined the most recent boss fight to give players a simplified view of what to expect.

I'd rather not call that banter.. it was so forced and awkward.. banter is natural speech among characters, similar to how Dragon Age did it. In Gears, it's like they're describing the water while monsters are there to cut their heads off. Cringed every time they said anything.

I disagree about Gears 4, but the Scalebound demo did look a bit dull. Still beat that joke of a FFXV demo.

Both games didn't impress me at all, and I agree that Scalebound looked bad.

Gears 4 looked good graphically, but the dialogue was campy as heck and did not fit the context of the demo.

Scalebound did not look good at all. The gameplay was not fluid and the dialogue was also bad.

I did like what I saw on gears 4 but I wasn't impress with scalebound.

Scalebound has gotten worse the more I see it. The announcement went from Dragon Riders of Pern in my head to what the heck is this. So I am out on it now.

Doing banter between characters is definately a difficult fine line, if you dont do it right it can come across as a bit "dude bro". But hasnt Gears always been a bit like that (and I dont mean that in a bad way)? Wouldnt it be strange if they made it more serious (make it out of place)?

That is funny because I almost wrote it actually reminded me of gears 1 banter but I don't know if I am remembering that correctly.  Either way I loved gears so I think the banter is hard to tell on short demos. It is something you really need to play longer to develop the characters talking.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

Marco....

Scalebound was totally unimpressive. Being a Platinum game it could be good but it could also be bad. I have a similar feeling for Nier Automata.

Gears 4 looks good. The gameplay of Gears is better than other third person shooters, including Uncharted. But the characters still feel made up, nothing believable. This is true for the whole series though so if Gears is your thing, I think Gears 4 is fine. I'll play it someday on PC, but probably after a discount or so.

I wouldn't say crap, just boring, not all games are going to be for everyone.

It's interesting that both games which have you fighting giants just looked boring, Scalebound and FFXV, seems more down to the way they were played rather than the games themselves, but still has put me off both.

The DEMO at Microsofts Presscon for FFXV was absolutely awful, don't know why microsoft even let that on their stage, what was shown for it at sony's presentation looked WAY better.

Gears 4 is looking goooood! Multiplayer beta took some time to get used to after playing hours and hours of Ultimate Edition, but it left a very positive impression and I'm sure this game will kick ass. I like the new characters and voice acting, I didn't catch much "banter" between them in that stage demo so I'm a bit surpised about some of the comments here. And in the end, it's just a short demo.

Scalebound gameplay looks good and I liked the main character and music. The boss fight they showed wasn't too impressive though. I still have a good feeling about the game and will certainly try it out.
