Forums - Sony Discussion - Spiderman PS4 is a beginning of an ongoing series with Insomniac and Sony.

Insomniac will do spiderman right. But i also wish they do more ratchet and clank games as well.

They will. Ted Price is an absolute monster at optimizing his team. They've had seven KNOWN games in development at some point in the last four months, not counting a few mobile titles.

Insomniac is the absolute perfect image of what an independent developer can be in this day and age. In the past two years they've had exclusives on three different platforms, the first Gamestop-published game, three VR games, and their quality has somehow IMPROVED.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

everything i hear about this game sounds like Marvel is really trying hard to make this their Arkham Asylum.

More or less, which certainly sounds good to me provided they don't pervert it like WB did.

Question: Has anyone else heard some bitching about the costume?

Quite a bit, which bothers me. I actually really like this costume and hope they stick with it.

I don't like the silver spider symbol myself.  But, I'm not too worried about it, as I'm sure they'll have several different versions of the costume that you can choose.

@ OP

This is a big deal.  Having an exclusive Spider-Man game, especially if it is of the same quality that Insomniac are known for, will draw in many gamers.  It makes it an even bigger impact when MS has announced the Xbox basically has no exclusives.

Spiderman was actually the most impressive of all the reveals. I seriously, didn't expect it to look that good.

Hopefully this will be the Arkham Asylum equivalent for Spiderman.

Do they really have any ties with these heroes? If they do, why not. Else not possible.

A Company tie like Sony with Spiderman isn't that S[ider-man was soly created by Sony, no that goes directly towards Steve Ditko and STan Lee. Sony merely own the rights to publishing a SPiderman Movie or game, they do not print and control the comics, so MS and Nintendo could easily do the same and buy somehting with their own amounts of wealth, it;s what Sony has done and hell it;s what DIsney has done with the entire Star Wars franchise.

It would cost them ALOT of money buying any of marvel superheroes. They can probably sign a contract with marvel to have exclusive videogame rights but its a risk because not every superheroes can make a good video game so it might not sell well to make a profit

It depends, some heroes aren't worth the same amount of cash as say Superman or Batman, it's why Fantastic 4 heroes are basically not worth as much with their comics having done poorly for years along with each live action movie becoming more of a mediocre super hero flick. Also the heroes aren't some unobtainable entity, Sony has claimed one with their own wealth and MS recently claimed a popular networking site let alone a popular indie game with their vast amounts of wealth. Heroes can be worth a decent amount of money, but they are not worth trillions or something out of MS's bank.

There have also been times where Spider-Man based games haven't been as good either, every hero has their ups and downs, Batman's ups have been going steady for a number of years now, Superman's were in the late 80's and 90's, possibly maybe even in the future he may come back in a big way that Batman and Iron Man have.

I posed this idea since Sony has been using it for a decent number of years, if they can do it than really everyone else should be able to capitalize on that concept of owning a hero and locking it to a piece of hardware, that is until everyone gets sick of that concept and wishes for those heroes to be able to roam free, though money talks and it has the last say over words.

If Sony hadn't paid for this, then the only Spiderman games we would get would be the crappy Activision Spiderman games. Well guess what? I'll take a (hopefully) great exclusive over a crappy multiplat any day of the week. If all games were multiplat, but shit, that would be way worse than if all games were exclusive, but great. I'm not saying multiplat games are shit, but Spiderman games, and licensed games in general, rarely get the budget required to actually be good, so I say props to Sony for putting in the money required to make a good game. If a multiplat publisher had wanted to do so, there was nothing stopping them besides them not wanting it enough. So I'm not sure what you are complaining about. This game wouldn't have existed without Sony. Do you expect them to pay to make it, and say "ah fuck it, put it on the Xbox One and PC too"?

That's funny because I enjoyed those Activision Transformer games until they decided for the last title to replace High Moon studios with a shitty no name one, beforehand what they had going for TF was good, they could do the same for Spiderman as well.

Not all multiplats are shit or terrible though, all games being exclusive to just one platform sounds like a totlarian nightmare to me, no choice at all but to obey and buy the one system, to you that sounds likely like a wet dream but to me it's far, far worse, it's like letting APple run the world and you having no say in the matter.

Yeah props for Sony, which is why I'd give even more kudos if the other two had a chance to gather their own hero licenses and make their own high budget exclusive Marvel games, I'm sure we'd all be happy for that.

I'm not complaning at all, in fact I posed the idea of wanting the other of the big 3 to do exactly what Sony is doing, maybe on a bigger scale and aqcuire more heroes under their wing. With MS that would be a win win for Xbox and PC owners, two crwods getting to enjoy whatever licensed heroes they snatch up.

I'd also love to see props given for people that pay to make a game happen, I'm hoping we'll see that with Roberts space industries game in due time.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

i remember pre-E3 everyone was like "fuck,.. please no shitty spiderman game".

than at E3 it was like, "meh, doesn't look as bad as i thought"

now people seem to be optimistic even. the hype is building. i'm a fan of spiderman and insomniac. i really really want this game to be awesome. i really really hope it doesn't disappoint.

One of the few surprises of the show. "Oh whats this? Oh Insomniac? Oh Spiderman!"
