Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo of America: "Grab a Wii U while you can"

Wii U shelf space at my local stores is already noticeably down even from last year. I bought Smash 4 this week and it was actually not super easy to find (one of my Best Buy's only had one left on the shelf) and let's not even talk about finding the Gamecube controller adapter which is basically impossible save for Ebay. I would guess that stores will probably get one last shipment of a lot of the more popular Wii U products for Christmas but I would suspect that you will be going on Ebay for Wii U-anything starting in early 2017.

if you are saying Nintendo was doing its usual lying to ts customer base - ill go with that-   but it is clear what they said-   to anyone that does not worship at Alter Nintendo- (and even many that do)

What's clear is that you're not even trying anymore. You've been completely ignoring his explanations and you've resorted to good ol "because I say so" logic as your only counterargument. You're just being completely unreasonable since you have no actual argument and probably know you're wrong but don't want to admit it.

Am I reading this correctly? Nintendo is increasing the price of the Wii-U?

The majority of remaining Wii U stock is currently the property of retailers. Nintendo has almost completely fulfilled shipping commitments of Wii U hardware, so whatever's left on stock shelves and retailer inventory will suffice. Thus, they're telling us to "Grab a Wii U while you can."

Restocking from the factory will be sparse and directed towards areas with high Wii U demand, like Japan. 2016 is a transitional year while Nintendo winds down its Wii U production and ships remaining inventory, which happens incrementally rather than all at once.

Prices aren't going to increase, but retailers will not be incentivized to clearance Wii U hardware unless it becomes abundantly clear that Wii U hardware will never sell-through. I expect that prices of Wii U on auction sites like eBay will start to rise as soon as the console is officially discontinued next year, given the collector's value of Nintendo content.

Already have my hands on one :p

but would be best to wait for a pricecut, whenever that will be..

Needs to drop the price first

You think that will ever happen?

Officially? Probably not, but retailers are going to have to get rid of stock some how

Thank you for your detailed response. This is much what I would expect, and makes perfect sense. I asked the question because a few other posters made comments that the price of Wii-U was going to increase. Unless I read them wrong.

That's why I am getting all first party games sealed in all shape and forms. plus one black and one white sealed console!

To me this implies that there will be no Wii U backward compatibility with NX.

Yeah, I have felt this way for awhile now. Mostly because it sounds like they are re-developing games to tweak them for a different architecture type. I also don't expect the NX to have a disc drive. If all holds true, I would say backwards compatibility is a no this time around. Which might be for the best, it will force Nintendo to move forward and develop from the ground up for this new system, which could generate some really great games and content.

I guarantee you that the moment the Wii U is officially discontinued, prices will start to rise on third-party markets like Amazon or eBay.

But while the console is still available on store shelves, it's going to stay at its current MSRP. That's what others were alluding to.

Nintendo inventory seems to be highly collectable. Over time, Wii U products will definitely command a high profit margin. I believe the collectability of Nintendo products is what will keep sell-through consistent until games have run out of inventory on store shelves.

If anyone wants a good investment, you should pick up Tokyo Mirage #FE which releases in the West in 4 days and keep it in the plastic. That quirky little Atlus title will command a significant premium five years from now.
