I've said it before but the irony with the Xbox One getting blitzed is that they are actually doing a FAR better job with content than with the Xbox 360.  They still rely too much on Gears and Halo but the variety is much improved.  Still hard for them to counter Sony's Japanese content, however.

Yeah, when you start adding in third-party exclusives the balance of power switches back to PlayStation. Games like Persona 5, Nioh, and Dragon Quest Builders look too good to pass up.

But I gotta say I'm liking what I'm seeing from Xbox. If Microsoft Studios could jumpstart Fable and fix Halo, then it would really be something special.

I've always seen it like this when it comes to the balance, Even when I only owned a PS4 I was strangely always looking forward to Microsoft's E3 show more than Sony's and that was when I never even owned a Xbox One and it was the same again this year now I own both consoles but at the end of the day the 3rd party Japanese support will totally eclipse anything Microsoft throws out on the "grand scheme of things" no matter how good it is and it has always been the reason PS has been strong, Never understood why MS cut off Japanese support. (yes I believe it was a internal decision rather than Japan moving away from Xbox which ultimately led to the latter)

Scalebound 1st party? lol

Jesus people, Microsoft considers games to be first party for whatever game they own. I've even seen Sony say the same thing for a IP they own but is developed by a 3rd party.

Is Scalebound IP owned by MS?

Didn't they said they will invest $1 Billion in games in Xbox One reveal? Given their track record it's hard to believe. Plus Microsoft first party studios is the weakest among big three.

A billion sounds like a lot, but then you realise AAA games can cost anything from $50-250 million.

I don't think games like:

Ryse, Halo5, Quantum Break, TF, RotTR, Gears, Forza's and Scalebound come cheap.

Buying or the Gears franchise alone must have cost a pretty penny let alone making the game, and if you just count costs for making the game or buying a product (timed or full exclusive), not marketing, you are still looking at over a billion in costs if Ryse, Halo 5, Gears and one Forza cost a $100mil each.

There was a thread in neogaf which indicated gears of war IP ownership costed $70 to $100 million and rise of the tomb raider deal was $40 to $50 million. And given the number of AAA games from Microsoft it hadn't surpassed $1 Billion yet. Because if it's above $1 Billion then their biggest competitor might have spent $3 to $4 Billion in games. It's impossible.

Totally agree. Right now, I think both Sony and Microsoft have a first-party problem. Microsoft mitigates that problem by creating partnerships that produce games like Scalebound and ReCore, and Sony mitigates the problem by inviting in third-party Japanese exclusives.

Sony doesn't have a first party problem.

there first party has been the best out of all 3 big consoles, obviously ps4 exclusives are racking up and destroying all competitors consoles but thats not first party but second- and third party like Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Ratchet and clank and upcomming games like Persona, sony first party is the one that really needs to step it up.

I am excited to see what Microsoft has in (windows10) store for my pc
