So they're saying that in 2017 Nintendo has finally caught up with a 2007 standard of games? How flattering.

This article is exactly the reason why I was not amazed by the E3 presentation. Yes it looks good, but every single mechanic used in this game has already been done, in higher fidelity and more complexity no less.
People are raving over it because it is new and so much better than previous Nintendo games. While it is a good step for Nintendo it simply does not deserve all the praise for merely catching up with current video game standards.
The gameplay is so stale that if Ubisoft or EA would release the exact same game under a different name people and critics would snuff it because it is nothing new and just a rehash of their previous games.

Is it great for a Nintendo game? Yes. Is it great? No.

you are trying so hard to downplay the game that it's actually laughable

So it's a bad game because it has mechanics that have been done before? Oh no. I heard you can jump on Super Meat Boy, something you could do in games since 1981. I guess it's not great...

Give me a few examples of games that BotW is ripping off from; enlighten me.

New zelda has elements of games like Skyrim, FarCry, AssCreed, SotC, etc

But the thing is, no other game has combined all those things together and most importantly no other game did it this way.

And I dont know since when the most advanced game is the best one, the best game is the one that makes things better.

I dont have a problem with a game taking elements from others. In fact, that generally makes them better.

But I want to know specifically what BotW takes from other games. How often do you see a game where you can burn down a forrest, use enemy body parts as your weapon, manipulate physics, snowboard with your weapons, glide, climb, have houndreds of durable weapons, cook, clothing/armor and temperature mechanics, blablabla... while paying huge attention to detail, having a gigantic world to explore, all in one game?

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

exactly, plus we don't know everything about the mechanics, we saw an early demo of the first 20 minutes, this is a zelda game so it's going to have special mechanics.

The fact that we don't have the option to play as Linkle proves this game is far from Politically Correct...

Anyway, this game might just attract gamers who once had no interest in Zelda whatsoever. It's bringing in new gamers while maintaining and exciting existing Zelda fans, what any masterpiece should do.

My roommate isn't a Zelda fan, she's tried a few and couldn't stay interested enough to ever finish one, but she's excited for this one. She likes open-world games like Skyrim and The Witcher and this game has her attention.

I don't think Nintendo has caught up to current video game standards. There will still be quality control. Your posts could use that too.

Judging by a big chunk of their 2015 and onward releases, Nintendo seems to be catching up very quickly.

I'll be honest; when I first saw the title I was expecting some kind of virtue signaling from some ultra-thirsty hardcore liberal games 'journalist'.

THANK YOU!!! Every game takes ideas from each other. Hell, is Skyrim a bad current gen game because it has 3rd person sword slaying like Zelda NES? Is Skyrim a copy cat for having in game stats like Ultima or Dragon Warrior? That's how the industry works, there are ideas that are shared between developers. Targeting Systems. Just because newer games have targeting systems, they're not as worthy of Ocarina of time. I don't see where people get off with this stuff.

Finially a console game that offers a polish, vibrant and colourful world that rivals World of Warcraft.
