Forums - Movies & TV - Finding Dory to be yet another billion dollar film for Disney this year? 1 billion! Eat it haterz! If there were some.....

Meh I've had my fill of CGI kids movies with talking animals (sorry Dory), not seeing another one this year unless it's something dramatically different.

Remains to be seen if Finding Dory can make up for the fact that it is tracking $200M behind Zootopia in China can make it up from the US BO.

Zootopia really did extremely well in China and it had great legs there too, since its total box office is almost ten times as much as its opening weekend total.

Now im starting to worry. I like animated movies and anime. But i hope it won't be the next trendy thing here. Personally, i prefer a real emotion from a real-life characters and the acting from them.
Kudos to Disney tho.

Well, it seems that animated movies are the only ones making money these days. That and horror movies.

Was Disney or a Chines company the distributor for Zootopia in China? I don't find the info for that on Boxofficemojo, it only shows a "n/a"

Maybe that is one of the reasons why Dory isn't so successful there? Distributing it on their own?

Edit: Well, they also distributed Civil War and Jungle Book on their own there and those made a good amount of money so probably not a big reason...

It opened in Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong this past week-end and still only made $36M across all overseas territories. Only UK, Germany and Italy left as big territories.

Don't think it will get to $500 million domestically it lost 767 theaters on Friday and its weekday daily totals will be well below $1 million from now on. I'm guessing it will finish between $480 and $490 million domestically. Maybe just slightly more then $490 if its lucky.

I would have thought Japan would have given it a huge push. ^

Still very good, but the budget and marketing!

It pretty much is underperfoming everywhere overseas so far it probably will not get to the billion dollar mark world wide.  But we will not know for sure until about early November.  Even though it didn't do that good in China the $38 million it made there is still the highest overseas gross so far.

It is out this weekend! Disney cannot be stopped, not even Alice 2 can keep them down.

Pixar is killing it! Once again.

Upcoming openings in Germany (9/29) and Italy (9/15) will raise it past 950 million.

For comparison, GER/ITA boxoffice combined:

Finding Nemo ~80 million
Zootopia ~46 million
