Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will the next big Mario Game Miyamoto has teased come to Wii U?

Will it come to Wii U?

Yes, Wii U only 11 8.59%

Yes, but Cross-Gen 117 91.41%

Total:128

No way. The game probably won't be shown off until next year, by which time the NX will already be released. A cross-platform release makes no sense and Nintendo only does it in rare cases.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

They're not even making Wii Us anymore. Or barely.

That's the point. You cannot sell Wii U's anymore, thus the game can't move either NX's and they go third party.

Everything is part of a big master plan.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Thanks for the laugh.

No, it won't come out on WiiU. Especially as a WiiU only game...

Even Zelda didn't stay a WiiU only game. Are you for real?

Even if NX is a catastrophic failure out of the gate, it's unlikely they'll give on it entirely within 9 months of release. And even if they do, what good will buying themselves a couple more months do? Wii U can't keep them afloat.

It doesn't have to. It just moves a little more software and puts a little more in Nintendo's bank.

Not enough. Wii U is barely relevant now, in a year's time it will be forgotten. Retreating back to it if NX fails will be no more viable than retreating back to the Wii and DS now.

Cross gen releases aren't really "retreating".

With the exception of Zelda, why would they do cross-gen releases? Wii U is a failure, they want to move on from it as soon as possible and get people to upgrade to NX. Cross-gen releases would work against this objective.

More sales than what they could get on the install base of NX. Why does anyone do crossgen?

Maybe more software sales, but fewer hardware sales. Nintendo want to build a strong install base for NX so they can make the kind of money that they just can't with Wii U's tiny base. It's in their interest to move on from Wii U as fast as possible.

3rd party developers are making crossgen games on first place if console have good instal base and if console actually is still selling in some digree. Wii U have terrible installe base and currently Wii U sales are catastrophic not mentioned next year when actually NX arrives.

Also when Nintendo done cross gen game for previous console (dead console) when new is already available!? Never!

People expecting any cross gen game at this point for Wii U are not realistic at all.

Absolutely not. Why would they bother? NX is more powerful hardware, and they need a Mario game that can "WOW" them. I would honestly be surprised if it wasn't a launch title, but knowing how Nintendo mismanaged development cycles for Wii U, I guess it wouldn't be TOO big a surprise. But there is no rational reason to put a new 3D Mario on Wii U. They need a ground up Mario game on NX hardware.
