Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Aonuma's opinion about the wii u gamepad.

“We realized that having something on the GamePad and looking back and forth between the TV screen and the GamePad actually disrupts the gameplay, and the concentration that the game player may be experiencing. You have your car’s GPS system on your dash. If you had it down in your lap, you’re going to get into an accident!”

ouch...

Ouch indeed...

Someone is sane at Nintendo!

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Well, I'm glad he's not going to be using some forced gimmick on this game with the Gamepad like he did with Skyward Sword. Good for him. This is shaping up to be the best Zelda ever made. I love everything about it.

He should have told this to the Starfox Zero team

Ha so true!

It worked for a few games, but that's about it.

He has been honest about the core problem of the Gamepad. It's a great feature, but let's be honest, when you're playing a game, you barely look at it. I often found myself looking for my inventory in TPHD while I had it in my hands.

No gimmicks is perfect. Time to get back to the real thing: the game.

Not really in Zelda, I found the gamepad usefull in WWHD, I also found it usefull in XCX, it didn't feel like it was disrupting anything because I dont look at it in the middle of a combat or anything like that, so it does not really breaks anything.

The reason why they are not using the gamepad on this new Zelda is probably because they dont want the WiiU version to have any advantage to the NX one.

Ha ha ha. They admitted it. A normal gamepad is sufficient for gaming.
