Forums - Sony Discussion - Would sony discard current PS4 NEO CPU and redesign it because of 6 Tf Scorpio?

it would honestly surprise me if they dont make it more powerful now.

Well they have 2 choices: release earlier with weaker hardware, release fall 2017 with similar specs

I dont want to wait that long, gimme the Neo at 4 point whatever flopz this fall, I want games like FFXV, Horizon to take advantage of it.

Maybe the thing was supposed to come out this year, but then delayed 5-6 months to March 2017(releasing with Horizon), that will give them enough time to bridge some of the power gap with the Scorpio.

Not likely. Sony will enjoy the lower price point, most likely. It's not like anyone has ever had a problem with a GTX970.

Lower price and early release will make the Neo much more successful than the Scorpio. Plus, keep in mind that the PS4 library is so much better.

As I said, MS are dumb if they think more power will help them.

Many have said that Neo is too far along to change now, and I don't really doubt them. In my mind the impact this disparity will have depends primarily on how long the industry plans on supporting them:

For the first few years the gap will be very small in practice, relegated to resolution and slight performance differences much like today's multiplats but probably even harder to notice in front of you. However more powerful Scorpio may be, its games are still designed around the XBO, after all. If support ends along with the original XBO once 'XB2' arrives, the impact it made would be marginal.

However, if support doesn't end then and both Scorpio and Neo become the new baseline for game design, the gap will be more pronounced. I'm not quite convinced this will happen, though. Both systems sound rather unbalanced to me to become new design targets.

By the time Scorpio is released the PS4 will be close to PS3 life-time sales so I don't think that Sony will bother about having a 1-2 Teraflops weaker console.

They're gonna rename it PS4 Super to compete with the X1 Slim and overhaul NEO.

Upclocks or possibly even core activations are plausible, I don't expect too much,
because if the point is full compatability with PS4.0, there is little point in over-boosting it.
Sony would rather have volume, and worry about high end performance with the gen after NEO.
If Scorpio's only selling point is 4K, that already limits the audience who is appreciative of it.
Sony can wait 2-3 years past Scorpio to then target a bigger 4K audience with a better product,
if in the meantime NEO suffices for good 1080p experience for the mass market.
In the meantime, XBone sales are not being helped, and Sony is doing fine.

Will more power let them get 2:1 sales vs Sony?  No.  Will more power give them a compelling experience to offer, for a viable fan base?  Sure.
Offering a weaker experience is not helpful to MS, they have only lost marketshare from their 360 peak with that.  Why not try more power?
Many times the most powerful console has not won the sales game.  Yet fans still liked it and it offered a unique experience.  Why can't MS do that?

Sony was the one that was suppose to anounce a new Console, from PS4 1.84 Teraflops to 4.2.

But what happened is that Microsoft anunce the awesome Scorpio with 6 Tf and 320 GB/s of bandwith.

Now, what sony can do about that.

Same as microsoft did with the One. Overclock it to close some of the gap.

Discard de design and go for a more powerfull CPU?

Anyway. If PS4 with 1.84 was just enough for full HD at 30 fps. And Scorpio will be 6 Tf for 4K (4 times full HD and 1.5 x 4 is 6.) So that means just what the One does for full HD, Scorpio will do for 4k at 30 fps. Neo will be significantly worse for 4k if it keeps 4.2 Teraflops, It only be able to run 2K AAA games and scalling or shit at 4k compared to native 30 fps 4k Scorpio. I wonder what sony will decide now. I love sony, but I guess Microsoft got serious and I respect that. Spencer is doing a great job.

By the time Scorpio launches PS4 will be over 60 million sold. PSVR will have sold quite a few million too. I don't think Sony need to worry. They have the better exclusives and more of them and the better 3Rd party support. Neo can quite easily be upgraded to match Scorpio. Don't rule it out just yet
