Just give me a decent spec and normal controller. And cheap price. Will get NX for select exclusives.

They did with the GC their second worst performing console.

That's because the console 1) looked like a Fisher Price toy, 2) didn't play DVD movies (which was a huge selling point for the PS2, especially early in its life cycle), 3) had no online games / network to speak of outside of a port of PSOII in an age where online gaming was exploding on PC and set to take off on consoles as well, and 4) Nintendo was more concerned about protecting its family-friendly image than allowing 3rd parties to bring some of the top selling titles of the generation over to the console like the GTA series.

Despite all that however, the GC has a very respectable library of titles from both 1st and 3rd party studios and in terms of both quality and quantity it has a better library than the Wii, Wii U and even the N64 had.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

It's their only chance, so i'm not surprised.

The family market IS the Nintendo market. Not the hardcore market.
Good move Nintendo.

The question is how much of that market is left or even needs another $250-$300 console when they already play several hours a week on their phones/tablets for free.

That will be the problem for Nintendo on this end, Apple/Google/Facebook are not any easier competitors than Sony/MS, maybe even harder truth be told. You can't beat free games.

The Wii/DS time was different because no one was making games for lapsed/casual gamers, but today smartphone and casual browser games are like 60% of the game market, it's the most over-served segment of the market and there are more people playing games today probably than ever.

Watching TV I now see like 5x+ more marketing for casual smartphone games than I do for even Playstation/XBox. That would be unthinkable circa 2004.

when my mother but a wii it was her first console.

i am quite confident it will also be her last console. she is never coming back. i feel the same can be said for most of the market that purchased wiis.

I agree. I think there's no family market for a console.

Good luck, Nintendo.

God bless You.

There's a ton of overlap between those two crowds, a lot of families play their tablet games like this:

It's really gutted Nintendo's market overall.

What tablet game has family members gathered together at the sofa? I can't think of any. Tablets are more solitary gaming devices.

Now Wii Sports on the other hand. That game gathered people to play together.

not a one?

every board game ever is on ipad (chess, life, monopoly, ect) and it plays out well to have it on a tablet.  the tablet basically is the "board".

also i'll just assume you don't have a kid.  if you are looking for interactive entertainment for a toddler mobile is really the only avenue.  the touch controlls are intuitive enough for my 2 year old (in a way that DS is too complicated for him to understand).  there are literally millions of apps availible many of which are free.  the lack of "quality" isn't a big deal because he's 2.  software can literally be as simple as touch the screen to make a dot change colors (that's not an exaggeration,.. my kid loves the app based off the book press here).  most of the "games" i play with him because its is as much about educational experiences as it is about "games".

by the time my kid is old enough to understand a "3DS" he'll have years of experience with a mobile device.   i seriously doubt he'll want to change from thing he'll already know and love,.. at the very least this is what i'm seeing in my young neice and nephews.  this is what is killing nintendo imo.  lots of people joke that ninendo is a "kiddy machine" but to me it isn't child friendly enought to take hold with today's youth.

Everyone I know who has children don't buy console for their little children. Mobiles are far cheaper, with lots of free games, and children just adore it.

Nintendo makes games for children but they forget that children don't buy stuff. Parents do and they buy whatever is cheaper for their children: mobile of course.

Ok, the whole family market thing just got a whole lot more credible:

Fils-Aime told Bloomberg (via Nibel): "For us, it's not about specs, it's not about teraflops, it's not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it's about the content."

Fils-Aime continued: "We're focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that's for them to fight out in that red ocean."

source

Especially that "Red Ocean" Part sounds like they are trying to pull another Wii with a new Blue Ocean.
While I agree that trying ro directly compete with Microsoft and Sony would be futile for now, I am a bot nervous what that means for the sort of Games NX will be getting.

The new guy.

Sorry for possible mistakes, not a native speaker!

I do know daredevil but because his issue was price doesn't make that the main issue for Nintendo

Exactly, Nintendo don't need to concern themselves with some peoples small issues, and should really concern themselves with the huge glaring faults. No software and no marketing were Nintendo's huge mistakes.

I can say many things but i'm fraid of losing my temper as a result to get  banned...

Tablet controller which adds 100$ dollars to the wii u price is a  small issue? hahahaah!

P.s Why microsoft dropped kinect...You remember? When xbox one was selling like the wii u, despite its strong third party support...

It's kind of a wonder that Nintendo is even paying that much still for the piece of junk the Wii U Game Pad is.

You can buy an Amazon Kindle tablet that has a larger display with higher resolution screen, it's own RAM, it's CPU/GPU, which can run apps, it's own flash storage for $69.99 retail today, lol.

Really...? Pffff....

From what I know, the most costly thing of the gamepad it's its screen...
