Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Spencer: Scorpio won't do anything for you if you don't have a 4K TV

You really think a 6 Tflop system could run a AAA game at 4k/60fps? Eurogamer has trouble believing that it can run games at 4k/30...

If the games don't change, they can easily hit that number. After all, 4K only contains 4X more pixels than 1080p, whereas the Scorpio has an unspecified muscle aside from its 6 TFLOPS (5X more computing power).

However, if developers take advantage of additional features to add - like he suggested in his quote, "Or," he continued, "if developers want to use those 6 teraflops in other ways they're free to do that." - it'll likely be less than 60 fps. Depends on any extra 'horsepower features' that are included with the silicon.

Yeah, but how many 1080P/60fps game are there on Xbox One? Heck, how many 1080p/30fps games are there?

You might see games running at 1440p upscaled to 4k at 60 fps and with better assets maybe? Which might be better in my opinion.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

No 60fps upgrades, then? Sounds like MS might not be changing their cpu much either.

I wonder if these mid-gen consoles are balanced enough to become the base platforms in four years or if they'll lose support the same time the originals do.

So no 60 fps?...

So why did they mention VR compatibility? Is that also heading to the original Xbone? I wouldn't think so, so surely even if you have a 1080p tv, you could still enjoy the VR aspect.

they are really fumbling their message here. ms needs to figure out if they are selling a next gen console or a mid-gen iterative upgrade. right now they are trying to sell it as both. it's confusing.

and if it is a mid-gen iterative upgrade ("no one is left behind") than 6tf is overkill. they are overcompensating from the talk of xbox one being underpowered. they need to remember that talk was fueled by the "..and ps4 is cheaper" part of the argument. scorpio looks too expensive of a console to make iterative upgrades work.

I really always do have a level of Symphaty for Phil though, the guy has so many voices coming into his head to consider whenever anyone asks him a question. It would be like asking a tech question to the head of Schizophreniac monthly newsletter.

SALES MAN SAYS BUY THE NEWEST MODEL

Well it was the same last generation felt like only a small part had a HD TV but the adoption rate went fast, 4K TV's are still slowly growing.

I think 4k is held back by price, the lack of shows that even bother with it, and the fact that somehow regular old Bluray hasn't even become the standard medium for films and such yet. Seriously, how absurd it is that we're still paying out the ass for a movie to be on Bluray? These transitions usually take a couple years, but somehow they've managed to maintain it as a borderline luxury item as normal dvds carry on as the mainstay. 4k films, in that context, are one heck of a luxury.

There's just so little media available in 4k and people are still transitioning to 1080p and such. Feels like there's a wider gap here than before, though I like that they're planning ahead... and 10% of americans really have 4k already? That seems exceedingly hard to believe.

All I know is that when I go in an electronic store, of 100 TVs 95 are 4k TVs now. So even if people don't look for 4k TVs they will automatically buy one if they need a new TV. That alone will drive the 4k TV household penetration nicely the next years.

Sure, some will use their TV for 15 years and they only bought one few years ago but still...

With households interested in tech (which many gamers probably are) it should be an even faster transition.

Well if there's one thing we americans are willing to spend ourselves into debt for it's Television lol

I thought you love to buy homes, that's why pretty much every US-American has an own home with mid 20 or something.  Some hundred thousand debt, who cares! (I think it's just easier in USA since homes are build cheaper there compared to where I live. We have massive walls between the single rooms and stuff  like that. So no cheap pressboard but massive stones which drives costs up )

And good riddance, multiple models running compatible OS, Infrastructures and Software libraries is the way forward, giving the consumer more choice.

I'm not sure why so many on this site are so upset about the whole neo/scorpio situation. It's a good thing imo. More Devices, Faster Progression, More Choice.

Agreed.  Its because people get emotionally attached to console generations and being associated with "winners".  Psychologists would have a field day.

For me personally its because I don't want to decide between shelling out money every year, or have outdated hardware.  I really like buying a console and knowing that Im on the cutting edge for ~5 years.  I do get annoyed that my phone is only the latest and greatest for 12 months and then its old news.  But alas, I am probably a dinosaur in this respect.

It depends on where you live. You can get crazy homes in some areas for the same price as a small apartment in others lol

Personally I'm just sticking with a 2 bedroom apt atm, works for me :)
