Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Spencer: Scorpio won't do anything for you if you don't have a 4K TV

Message makes perfect sense to me. If you don't have a 4k TV, you are better off buying the XB1S. If you have a 4k TV, you are better off buying Scorpio.

(what if you dont have online?)
"We have a product for people that cant get online, its called a 360" - D.mattrick

vs

(what if you dont have 4k tv?)
“You should buy [the Xbox One S], because Scorpio is not going to do anything for you,” - P. Spencer

What they both said was probably somewhat true... however you should never utter those words, if your a PR guy.

What's wrong with what Spencer said?  Would you rather him just say "everyone should get our latest and greatest" and then have to deal with the blow back when people who don't have 4k tvs are sitting there wondering why everything on Scorpio looks the exact same as it does on XB1?

Yes.

Also he should make sure theres more to it than just resolution.

So he can sell that product without being in that situation.

I think he's just trying to make people feel comfortable buying an Xbox One S.

Unless MS forbid developers from making graphical changes outside of resolution than you're going to see a difference varying on a game by game basis.

I just bought a 65 inch UHD Samsung (newest model) and it is glorious. With 4K BR players still being expensive I will be trading in my current Xbox One for a Xbox One Slim for the added 4K features and (rumored) better hardware.

As far as Scorpio is concerned, I am waiting to see what the specs/cost are for all three upcoming consoles before deciding on the next console to couple my new 4K tv. I do not have a gaming PC nor am I going to build one so I am currently leaning Scorpio unless the other two manufacturers knock my socks off.

There is more to it than just resolution, like Oculus support.  However, it is the same thing as the DVD/Blu Ray upgrade a while back.  Sony wasn't telling everyone without an HD tv to buy Blu Ray.  They were telling them to upgrade to HD and buy Blu Ray. Honesty with your consumers is as important as the run around in the PR circus.  Also, as we get closer to the release of Scorpio I am sure they will actually go with a marketing campaign that makes sense and elaborates on all the reasons to buy, or not buy, one.

What a bad answer...there's no way that they're going to leave everything else the same.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

The fact that so many people in this thread are calling the message confusing or mixed is just further proof that the console crowd is indeed different than the PC crowd.

Here is the video I was talking about and he clearly states that it is up to developers how to use the power which in my opinion also means developers can use it as example for 60fps instead of 30fps in singleplayer games.

Maybe his opinion is that you shouldn't buy a more expensive and stronger XBO (what Scorpio is) because the normal XBO will do it on a 1080p TV but that doesn't mean that devs can't implement better visuals or higher frame rates which you will see on a 1080p TV.

So, if devs will be able to change stuff also for people on 1080p TVs I don't really care what Spencers opinion is about it. If it's only about higher resolution and HDR it would be stupid even for people with 4K TVs. HDR implementation on 4k screens even in 1080p looks already awesome so even for 4K TV owners, an XBO S would do everything like the Scorpio except for the resolution. That can't be the only selling point.
