Forums - Gaming Discussion - So... where on the Zelda timeline BotW is placed?

Based on what I know, I'm going to say this is an alternate version of the Wind Waker timeline. Yes, another split.

We know that it has to be some time after Ocarina of Time, since Ganon was apparently around for a century. However, it can't be too removed from that setting, or Sheikah artifacts would be much more scarce. Twilight Princess is the only post-Ocarina game with a good helping of Sheikah, Nd it was in the foreseeable future without an apocalypse.

If the goddesses didn't choose this Link, like in the Adult timeline, that would explain his lack of Green Tunic. So perhaps this is an alternate universe where Hyrule wasn't floded, but still devastated by Ganon. The Sheikah could still have been around, and would have the magitek to do the crazy stuff we see.

Love and tolerate.

TP timeline from what I see, Ganon is referred to as the Beast and resembles its Dark Beast appearance in TP, couple with the way the map resembles TP's Hyrule I think it's certain to be TP's era.

So... Ocarine of time/ Hero successful / Ganon sealed timeline? :O

In Sony We Trust!

I don't see enough evidence to really guess. Really, they seem to just make the games and wait for fans to find the spot they fit best into chronologically lol

I think it takes place before Skyward Sword. In SS, when the game gets to the ground level, you discover the past is filled with extremely advanced technology. According to Hyrule Historia, there was at least 1 link prior to SS Link (the bad apple prisoner who breaks out and turns his life around), so this could be after that Link?

Or, maybe it's way down the road in the windwaker timeline and the technology has come back somehow?

I think it's set in the Child Timeline after Twilight Princess. Not only we can clearly see some parts of the world that strongly resemble that game but also the game is set on a world in ruins and in a state of decay (confirmed).

Not to mention the use of technology as opposed to magic. That's one of the focus of the game, implying it's set in the future. I know Skyward also had technology, but it was a very different one... this is related to Sheikahs advanced gadgets/tech. The ancient tech of Skyward is also kind of lost in the next games of its timeline and there are many reasons for that.

Plus, there were statues activated by some sort of magic/tech in Twilight that remind me of Breath of the Wild a bit:

Spoiler:

On a site note, there are some evidence/possibility that we might travel back to the past in this game.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Link fails timeline in Zelda 1 and 2 but then again those korocks things from Windwaker are shown in the game so who knows? The timeline is about as messy as a 10 year old bedroom anyways.

Not sure, but it seems to me like Link is from the future, like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the future with the way the game opens.

It would be cool if he can go into "future sci-fi world".

Could be a follow up to TP ... the Wolf Amiibo working might be a subtle hint to that.

Personally, based almost solely on the Koroks, I'm thinking it takes place after Phantom Hourglass (no idea if before or after Spirit Tracks, though). I think this because the Kokiri only evolved to be Koroks because of the flood, so it can't take place before WW and PH. I think BotW will explain what happened to the flood.

I was inclined to say TWW timeline as well because of the Koroks + Cell shading.. though a lot of the locations aren't present in that timeline as far as I know.. (Lake Hylia, Temple of Time, Death Mountain, Eldin Bridge, etc.)

Well Lake Hylia and the Bridge obviously would've been flooded. The Tower of Gods could easily be the Temple of Time, since it's directly above Hyrule Castle, and in Ocarina of Time, the Temple of Time is right next to the Castle (and the tower came from under the water). The Tower of Gods also has a very strong resemblance to the Temple of Time dungeon in Twilight Princess.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

I'm guessing somewhere in the tail end of the Who Gives A Fuck Timeline.
