Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumour: Zelda U/NX has no Towns/no sidekick

As long as the rest of the world is worth exploring then I'm cool with it.

Hope the part of not habing towns is not true. Its always very nice to go into towns and there be lively and all.And I mean, Hyrule being in ruins is not an excuse to not have a village or houses with people in it.Carachters need to live somewhere right?

They do have places to live, in the ruins of what was Hyrule and camping out in the wild, this news means the game is somewhat like Shadow of the Collossus where it's just you and the world.

This also allows a lot of freedom in the game as the will be no or a minimal amount of go see so and so or go to this town, it's literally this is where you are good luck to you.

If this is true,I wonder if it will get the same flack As ff13 for not having towns or will it be "justified" for not having them.

From what I remember, people complained more about the game's linearity/story/voice acting/core gameplay.  Complaining about the lack of a hub world was just people kicking the game in the gut while it was down and doubled over in pain.

Miyamoto is being interviewed right now and said they felt Skyward Sword had gotten too linear and they wanted to go back to how Zelda was originally with an open world and exploration. Now that I think about it, there weren't towns in the OG Zelda.

He even said they're so focused on going back to the original zelda that you have to meet an old man to get a shield and sword again haha

I guess there are far more settlements on the overworld, like camps, so you don't necessarily need lots of dungeons.

I hope that's not the case. I've been wanting MORE towns in Zelda, not fewer. Although, interestingly, I haven't seen any Rupees in BotW yet...

There are rupees, Aonuma confirmed, but it seems you only get them when you sell items, which also confirms that shops will exist in some way or another(or it is merchants). Its in this interview if you want to see:

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Well, maybe but having a Kakariko village like town would be super awesome. Also giving the Shadow of the colossus example dont work for me, since Im not really a fan of that game lol

No towns or villages?

There are villages.

“I can't share too much about villages because to tell you how the villages work, they're interconnected to the story and overall world.”

We also saw some Korok from Windwaker earlier

Oh boy. I remember the last old franchise that suddenly didn't have towns got ripped apart by its fans.

I'm sure this will totally happen again this time.

The example wasn't really meant to change your mind but to give you an idea of what they're aiming for, in the stream the first npc tells you the land has been in ruin for ages and going by when Link wakes up trouble has been running rampant with no answer to it so it makes sense the towns are no longer around and just little camps and huts littered around the land with some possible settlements.

Having a Kakariko like village would likely not fit in with what they're going for and would just be there for the sake of it with no real purpose in the game, SS started the trend of removing clutter after all.
