Forums - Sony Discussion - God of war is ruined (opinion)

It's a reboot. It's not supposed to be similar. It will have its own pros.

God of war was an awesome hack and slash action game, now the combat is slow, more like an action adventure, also, I can't believe that I'm going to say this but the fixed camera was better.

You feel the game is slow because they showed a one v one focus combat unlike the previous games where hordes of enemies come at you at once(don't know if there will be hordes of enemies later), it's more like the Ryse combat and having the camera behind you makes it more cinematic I guess, just my opinion.

ryse combat is just sad.

Agreed, would have been better if there were more variations of executions and enemies.

I don't see why anyone would even expect the game to get faster based on what we just saw. I mean, has there ever been a game that started out this slow and heavy, and then progressed to be as fast as a traditional beat-em-up? It's ridiculous to assume this game is going to effectively overhaul its battle system in later  acts. Face it -- this is not God of War. It can hardly even be considered the same genre.

That siad, it definitely doesn't look bad to me. Not great, so far(very boxed in and linear, but that could be due to it being early game), but not bad. I also appreciate thr lack of QTE's, even though there were opportunitiess for them in that miniboss fight.

Wat?  I was thinking it could get faster kind of similarly to how Kingdom Hearts does as you go further.

edit: Not saying that it will, but that it's not stupid to think it can.

Kingdom hearts was  never like this. Come on, man! Watch this gsmeplay again. They went full modern, slow, realistic mocap with their animations. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few faster weapons, but this gsme is never going to come close to the speed and fluidity of OG GoW. If you're expecting more, you're going to be horribly disappointed. I'm warning you, do not go in expecting a fast game, because that's not what this is going to be. I knew that the moment he started walking around, and the next ten minutes confirmed it beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I'm not saying it will build up to the same speed as the originals.  Lol.  But I think it's not unreasonable to think the pace will pick up (potentially).

Oh yeah, forgot to say....he is wielding a large axe, with a wide swing. That alone would slow down the combat. Curved blades are much faster weapons.
