Forums - Sony Discussion - God of war is ruined (opinion)

God of war was an awesome hack and slash action game, now the combat is slow, more like an action adventure, also, I can't believe that I'm going to say this but the fixed camera was better.

EDIT: alright I guess that I'm wrong cause I'm mad because now god of war is not god of war, I even think the new story looks promising and better than before. but the game's mechanics are totally different and you have to be blind to not see that. I saw the last of us with kratos. Hopefully the new zelda is not going to be a hack and slash with fixed camera cause I'm going to be mad too.

How do you know the combat is slow?

Seriously, people really do need to stop jumping straight to conclusions based on one showing of a game.

Even though I haven't played the previous ones, I kind of agree, an over-the-shoulder camera isn't suited for fast paced action games.

I'm now filled with determination.

Not jumping straight to conclusion, I saw a lengthy demo with a combat that is not like god of war, I'm not saying the game looks bad or anything, it's a change. But imho god of war's orginal combat was perfect for the game. And the camera,  I don't like it, that camera is better for games like uncharted or tomb raider. hack and slash action games should have cameras like Ninja Gaiden, DMC, Bayonetta, or even a fixed camera.

Wait and see. That was a demo that was clearly from the beginning of the game and all he had was a basic axe. On top of that he looks like he's now an ordinary man without many powers.

It's a level system, you get faster as you go up in level.
It's just that the difference between Level 0 and level 10 is more visible with the new hardware that allows them, to go deeper into details..
On old Level-based games, no matter how much you upgraded your speed, you barely see a massive leap in difference.

To me, this already look like the best GOW so far, at least until i get to play it myself.

yeah hopefully they will  show more weapons and stuff, it's just my first impression.

If I, somebody who absolutely boycotted this series and Santa Monica Studio due to their awful handling of incubated IP in the past, and avoided the games regardless because of average hack and slash gameplay, am interested in God of War Norse, it's by no means ruined.

You don't understand the loathing I have for Santa Monica Studio. But I'm intrigued here.

God of War never had truly great mechanics or a good story, and since 3, other hack and slash games have done both categories better. The only way to continue the series is either improve both immensely or take a separate focus and work on making a game that spans more than one niche genre. And they're doing exactly the latter at the very least, and by giving Kratos restraint and emotions they're working on the former.
