Forums - General Discussion - Recent shooting reflects how separated Americans are

Just recently, there was a shooting at an Orlando strip club. 50 were dead, and it's considered a huge massacre(one of the biggest apparently).

Anyhow, I realized that all the comments concerning the issue points out a huge issue- Americans have serious problems. We are more divided than ever. People are slowly gaining more biased and extreme viewpoints, and the hatred for all groups of people is growing by the day.

I'm not sure if anyone thinks this as well, but America will only continue to worsen from not to the selection of the president for the United States. A lot of people may consider this a non issue, but it can be serious if we become too divided. We're slowly becoming more and more like America in the '60s, back when bigotry was at large.

I'm not here to support any group. I'm not here to victimize anyone as well. Heck,  I'm not here to be against any group(except groups like ISIS and nazis[obviously]). Rather, I was just here to share my thoughts.

How connected do you expect to be when you have over 300 million people living in a nation ?

Are americans becoming more biased or has certain events made them angry and concerned. Bias implies an unfair view or prejudice but I think many are worried about religious extremism and surely they have that right based on events.

Here in the UK.

Ultimately I think many of these issues aren't being addressed by politicians because of political correctness in the UK leading to frustration in the wider population.

I honestly think the prejudice and problems are in the muslim community and the issue is how we improve the situation so less muslims commit crime in general including hate crimes etc. We need more influence in their lives/culture to make sure young muslims are bought up with respect and tolerance for women, gay people and other religions in general. We need them to understand that religious people deciding the fate of others often with cruel sadistic punishments i.e. sharia law is totally unacceptable. The majority of muslims already feel that way but a huge sizable minority do not and this is unacceptable.

America's always been divided, but honestly the state of today is still probably better than what it was in the past, though I would say the phenomenon of the "mass shooting" which has been popularized since Columbine it seems is quite frightening.

In a weird way I think all the news coverage given to mass shootings perputates the certainty that more will happen.

Maybe I'm just wrong but I don't recall so many mass shootings in the 70s and 80s before 24 hour news really took off.

I agree that americans are more divided than ever. I think that's what happens when over a long time, a certain political party focuses on what divides us to gain voters instead of pushing towards unity and improving the lives of everyone in the country.

No you're just young and naive. Go back to the 1950s and you will see what actual division and mind boggingly disgusting racism looks like.

What do Asian countries do that prevents attacks as big as this?

I rarely hear China or Japan having issues with Isis. And it's not like muslims are rare there. Many muslims are living in Asia

In Japan and China? I'm guessing you didn't ace your geography class.

They aren't plenty, but I'm sure there has to be AT LEAST some muslims.

Unless they've magically banned them. I don't know. I should go check some statistics quickly
