Spurred on by discussion with Veknoid_Outcast, spin-off of my monthly Metacritic thread (http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=217300&), this is the inaugural VGChartz Game of the Month thread. Around the end of the current month/start of the next month, I'll make a thread collecting the VGChartz community's favorite games each month. For this month, I will tally up the votes June 18.
Rules:
1. You vote and rank up to 3 games. #1 gets 3 points, #2 2 points, and #3 1 point. I repeat UP TO 3 games. If you've only played one game that month (and like it enough to want it on a thread like this.), you shouldn't fill the remaining 2 games picks with stuff you haven't played yet.
2. You can only vote on games releasing in May if that's the N. American release date, unless it's never coming to N. America, in which case the original Japanese release date will work.
(For example Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE would count as a June 2016 game despite releasing in Decemeber 2015 in Japan, because it releases in June in N. America.)
3. You can vote for remakes/remasters and collections of episodic games. You CAN NOT vote for late ports (RIse of the Tomb Raider on PC/PS4 for example), game collections, individual episodes in episodic games, PC games in Early Access, "complete/ultimate/GOTY" editions, or DLC/expansion packs.
4. For this month, and this month only, you can post your picks for January, February, March, and April with your May picks. If you haven't played any May games, you're still encouraged to post your Jan, Feb, Mar, and Apr pick(s).
5. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POSTS TO REFLECT CHANGES. Create a new post with the changes.
6. Fun have.
You can click the link in the opening to see the Metacritic game of the month thread, for a reminder of the major games in that month should you need it.
My picks:
Jan 2016 - 1. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Feb 2016 - 1. Fire Emblem Fates
Mar 2016 - 1. (Hyrule Warriors Legends)*
2. Pokken Tournament
Apr 2016 - N/A
May 2016 - 1. Pocket Card Jockey
* I don't know if I'm counting Legends as a late port or a remastering yet. Suggestions?
Thoughts? I'm open to suggestion for the rules regarding release dates and what games I do and don't count, as well as to when I start the thread up each month.
UPDATE: THE RESULTS
January | |
1. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (1 1st) | 3 |
2. Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky (1 1st) | 3 |
I think this speaks less to the quality of these two games than it does the relative lack of new games in that month.
February | |
1. Fire Emblem Fates (3 1st) | 9 |
2. Digimon Story: Cyber Slueth (2 1st) | 6 |
3. Street Fighter V (2 2nd) | 4 |
4. Megadimension Neptunia VII (1 1st) | 3 |
Honestly surprised Fire Emblem didn't win by a larger margin. Ahhhh, Street Fighter...
March | |
1. Pokken Tournament (4 1st) | 12 |
2. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (1 1st, 1 2nd) | 5 |
3. MLB: The Show 16 (1 1st) | 3 |
4. Nights of Azure (1 1st) | 3 |
I'm honestly surprised Pokken beat Twilight.
April | |
1. Ratchet & Clank (3 1st, 1 2nd) | 11 |
2. Dark Souls III (1 1st, 1 2nd) | 5 |
3. Severed (1 1st) | 3 |
4. Alienation (1 3rd) | 1 |
The lack of Dark Souls love is somewhat surprising.
May | |
1. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (5 1st) | 15 |
2. Overwatch (3 1st, 1 2nd) | 11 |
3. Pocket Card Jockey (1 1st) | 3 |
4. Battleborn (1 1st) | 3 |
Where's the Doom love?
Thoughts?
