With so many high-profile PS4 games launching in 2016, some fans have introduced the idea that 2016 might be the best year for the PlayStation ecosystem.

That got me thinking: what IS the best year for the PlayStation ecosystem? And that question prompted two others: what is the best year for the Xbox ecosystem? The Nintendo ecosystem?

Therefore, I've created three threads, one for each of the big three.

Best Year Ever: Nintendo
Best Year Ever: Sony
Best Year Ever: Microsoft

So let's talk Xbox here. Which is the best overall year?

Is it 2001? That year saw Halo: Combat Evolved, Project Gotham Racing, Dead or Alive 3, and Max Payne
Is it 2003? That year saw Crimson Skies, Star Wars: KOTOR, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Freedom Fighters, and Vice City
Is it 2005? That year saw Star Wars: Republic Commando, Doom 3, Jade Empire, Psychonauts, Forza, and Ninja Gaiden Black
Is it 2007? That year saw Halo 3, BioShock, Blue Dragon, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Is it 2008? That year saw Fable II, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, Braid, Fallout 3, and Grand Theft Auto 4
Is it 2011? That year saw Bastion, Gears of War 3, Portal 2, Skyrim, Forza 4, and Dark Souls
Or another year, and why?

I feel as if 2007 will be the best year here, it is what made me love the 360 above the PS3 at the time.

Every year according to MS!

Seriously though for 2007 by a country mile was the best year for Xbox imo.

I'm going to buck tradition and go with 2005. So many great PC ports like Far Cry Instincts, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, plus awesome games like Republic Commando and Psychonauts.

Despite being an early owner of both the Xbox and Xbox360 and loving both, the libraries haven't really stuck in my memory quite like the Nintendo and Playstation ones did for some reason. I'm not sure why that is...

While I had it I never once felt it had a lacking library, and those original Xbox days are some of the most under-appreciated of any console in my opinion (much like its contemporary Gamecube due to the juggernaut that was the PS2 lol)

Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon were both great entries as JRPG's and the combat in Armoured Core 4 was just crazy good at the time, 2007 also brought Mass Effect, Halo 3 and Bioshock that became all time classics. I loved the campaign and spent mnay hours online with Lost planet along with COD 4 really bringing more and more fiends into online console gaming following the start Gears of War made the previous year.

2007:
- Eternal Sonata
- Blue Dragon
- Lost Planet
- Armoured Core 4
- Mass Effect
- Bioshock
- Halo 3
- Assassin's Creed
- Crackdown
- COD4
- Virtua Fighter 5
- Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation

A few other games that I personally enjoyed that year but wouldn't make the main list as I'd class them more for personal taste than the greats in the top list.

- WarTech Senko No Ronde
- Shadowrun
- Bladestorm The Hundred Years War
- Bulletwitch
- Tenchu Z
- Warriors Orochi
- Naruto: Rise of a Ninja

2008 is a good year also since Lost Odyssey released and is the best JRPG of the 7th gen :)

2007 is sexy lol

Btw I've still never played Lost Odyssey. I've seen it god knows how many times, always thought to myself "I should try that"... and then I forget.

I can't really claim to have a solid opinion on this one sadly because I have only played on the first XBox, and it wasn't even mine. I'm trying to remember when precisely and what I played. Also while one of my favorite games is up there, plus a couple others I liked a lot, I never actually played them on XBox but rather PC instead.

I think I'll pick 2005 though because of the combination of a fairly solid actual release schedule (even if I was mostly unaware of it at the time) combined with the fact that this year was probably the culmination of my personal familiarity with and playtime on the system.

If this year comes true and being honest (Killer Instinct season 3, Halo Wars 2, Gears 4, Recore (have some doubts), Quantum Break, Forza Horizon 3, Sea of thieves) it will have a chance against the all mighty 2007 year.

2007-2008 and early 2009
