2001, MGS2, GT3, GTA3, FFX (even though it technically released in '02 in the UK). I think for all round, looking back that was one of the best times for PS gaming for me, but there have been years with better standout games.

Kinda hard for me to pick an actual best year for this as I can't remember dates between JP,NA and EU versions and what not as back then the gaps were massive on JRPG's back then and I don't have a list with all the games to look through. Could easily take any year between 1996-2001` and I'd be happy with it :)

Just had 5 minutes on Google and I 2000 definitely had some good games :)

Kinda shocked not to see 2008 up there.

For me, Valkryia Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid 4, Rock Band 2, Wipeout HD, Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Soul Calibur 4, Resistance 2, Bioshock, Prince of Persia, DMC4, BF:BC, LBP, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Mirror's Edge, Eternal Sonata, Hot Shots Golf. Wow, as I went and looked up some of these games, I was shocked at how many great games released.

Plus GTA4, but I'm not big on that.

the question is between FF7 and Castlevania SOTN or MGS and FF Tactics... damn those were crazy times... hey, let's have FF7 Remake, PSVR, Shenmue 3, Bloodborne 2 all together and I'll call 2017 the best year in history period
