I imagine it's a case of them lowballing the actual amounts, 50m is a given based on information that has been made public by Sony and Microsoft.

That being said, if they are referring to their production as it doesn't state that it's actual sales, then if both consoles have, combined, exceeded 60m in sales, shipments (or produced units) would be far exceeding 60m, it would make more sense for them to say over 60m.

Would be nice to get official info from MS, we'll likely spend the rest of eternity speculating how many consoles they've actually sold or shipped even.

Exactly. EA might be able to estimate numbers but for solid numbers there's no one in a better position than AMD.

Its probably over 20ml by now but i guess since MS hasnt announced official numbers other companies can't come out and say the xb1 has sold so and so many units.

But AMD will know how many chips they've made. They aren't announcing separate data for each console and I doubt that they would say 50+ if they are at almoost 60M (even at 60M it would put XB1 under 20M).

It does seem low to me so the data is probably old but we also shouldn't ignore official data especially from a source that constructs chips for the XB1. I've seen you calculating the EA numbers to come up with a number for the XB1 without much argument so at least consider these numbers.

No, it's under 5 million for sure.

As far as I know AMD doesn't make these chips themselves. TSMC or Global Foundries make them and will send them to Foxconn to insert them into the consoles. Of course TSMC/GloFo/Foxconn will report the produced/inserted numbers to AMD so that they can settle the license costs with MS, but we don't know how frequently these reports will go to AMD.

We don't. Just trying to make a point that people will readily accept some data but be ignorant of other data to suit them.

So when developers say A + B sold X amount, it's solid numbers but when the actual company that makes parts for the console say the same thing, it's downplayed.

I would be surprised if the XB1 has sold less than 20M but if you're willing to take one set of numbers serious then you should also consider these numbers.

It's more than that. Microsoft aside, AMD is the only significant company that knows an exact production number on which the maximum number of Xbone's shipped can be based. If AMD has shipped 20 million chip sets to MS, then it is impossible for MS to have produced more Xb ones than that, and if AMDs shipment number is exactly 20 million then it is guaranteed that less than 20 million have been sold to consumers.

This is the most solid evidence we have so far on which to base Xb one retail sales on. At the time the presentation was prepared (not the time it was presented) Xb one retail sales were more than 10 million and less than 20 million. I feel sure that if the presentation at least partly has a PR aspect to it promoting the success of AMD then if the number was very close to 20 million then they would say almost 60 million. If you use the rule of thumb of rounding figure to multiples of 5 when you are going with "almost" and "over" type statements you'd be assuming that if the number was somewhat above 15 million then the figure quoted would be "over 55 million". But maybe AMD wanted a cleaner multiples of 10 number on the screen, and "over" is a better and more positive sounding word than almost. So I think Xb one sales were probably something like 17-18 million when this presenation was being written

At least quarterly I would have thought, but as a minimum it would be every billing cycle for AMD to send a bill to MS, and probably more importantly for the manufacturers to send a bill to AMD. I would think these manufacturing companies probably want to be paid at least monthly, so unless they are being paid based on projected demand, and then things are evened up  at regular intervals I would think exact production numbers would be reported monthly.

Im not doubting these numbers, theres a real chanve that the xb1 is under 20ml but it could also be above 20ml.

Cool! It's just that your first statement didn't really make sense.

AMD said back in January 16', that PS4+xb1 (dec 15') are ahead of ps3+xbox 360 (38.8m) by 20m in the same time frame!
Do the maths....
( of course they must mean shipped, as companies always refer to shipments not sales in their earnings releases ! ) Google it!

I'm repeating that... Guys don't you read it?
