Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Miyamoto losing his touch?

I am 100% sure the other director(s) were forced to listen to Miyamoto. Platinum Games would never make such poor control decisions. Why would he lie about his role in SF0 in the first place?

Actually, Platinum Games is susceptible to make such poor decisions. Haven't you seen the Korra and the TMNT games? The staff from Platinum saw Star Fox Zero as a game of the caliber of the two previously aforementioned.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I don't think it is a coincidence that Kora, TMNT and Transformers suck, the three games made in collaboration with Activision. These games are meant to make quick and easy money. Activision controls the development of these games.

Of course not.

Sounds like this was the case with Star Fox Zero, too. Nintendo pressured and Platinum did the necessary, and I mean, just the necessary things to make a game.

Every dog has its day. Miyamoto had a great run. He can't go on forever. No shame that he's lost it. Markets and trends change. There's not much he can do.

When i read this post i ask myself did kerotan even play any of the paper mario/star fox or even pikmin 3 games? Then i remember post like this dont make sense when they dont even know what they are talking about smh

Edit: i dont think he even made sticker star. That makes what many wrong with his out of touch approach.

Yeah I played them.  My little sister is a Nintendo fan.  Your reply to me is irrelevant because it's based on false assumptions.

He's lost his touch but I'd go one step further and say Nintendo are losing their touch.  They're losing a lot of market share these past few years.

Not according to http://nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Fox_Zero/credits

SF0 had two directors, neither of which being Miyamoto, with Miyamoto as supervising director (I have no clue what that means).

Miyamoto HIMSELF said he was the director of Star Fox Zero and did with the game what he wanted:

Miyamoto: Well, I am credited as both producer and supervising director, and I’d say that what I did was pretty close to working as a director.

Sao: But when you play the game, you can tell that you really enjoyed working on it.

Miyamoto: Right. That’s because I just did whatever I wanted! (laughs)

I am 100% sure the other director(s) were forced to listen to Miyamoto. Platinum Games would never make such poor control decisions. Why would he lie about his role in SF0 in the first place?

"I’d say that what I did was pretty close to working as a director."

This is not equivalent to being director.

I kept hearing it the other day, and I'm hoping it's not the case, but when you consider this gen he's made huge mistakes like Paper Mario Sticker Star and Star Fox Zero, maybe it's time Shigeru Miyomoto retired.

Did he have anything to do with Paper Mario Sticker Star other than having the Producer label? Anyway, I don't think he should retire. I think he should stay away from big budget projects. I think where Miyamoto is best is when coming up with ideas for gameplay and design and focusing on those ideas without getting distracted by complex stories and overblown conematics. He's good at keeping developers focused.

Although he had nothing to do with Resident Evil, I think this analogy I'm about to make sums up Miyamoto best. Resident Evil 4 is a very Miyamoto-style game. The focus was to fix the things that needed to be fixed while keeping what works.Gameplay was the core focus. It is an extrememly focused game where cutscenes are never too long and are only there for leading the play from one scenario to the next. Resident Evil 6 on the other hand is the exact opposite of a Miyamoto game. It is exrememly overbloated and unfocused. It does notihng better than everything else while doing everytihng worse. It also doesn't know what kind if game it wants to be.

Are we talking games or as a whole? Because nintendo hasnt really lost their touch if your basing it on games. In fact many of their franchises this gen are better than they were last gen.

He too stubborn to change to where the market has moved to and not loosing his touch per-say.

He made games in an era where internet wasn't around and gaming was for kids. So back then kids had to get their parents to buy games.

Now we are all connected and adults so we have disposable income and our tastes have changed.
