Hi guys, in less than 3 weeks we gonna witness the biggest evolution of Zelda since Ocarina of Time, so this is my "Things you need to know" thread for Zelda WiiU/NX, enjoy!
1. At Nintendo EAD Software Group No. 3, they want to rethink the conventions of Zelda. Rethink things such as the player is supposed to complete the dungeons in a certain order. That you are supposed to play by yourself, the things that we’ve come to take for granted recently. "We want to set aside these conventions, get back to basics."
2. 2 Years ago, Aonuma said this: "If we don't change we might die. We need to evolve. Things need to change. Things need to grow." <--- this right here, could mean A LOT, in a good way. But... then he said: "If we change it too much, I'm also concerned people will say, 'Okay, is it no longer Zelda if we don't have this formula?'" But... he is listening to you, zelda fan, cause then he said: "With regard to... breaking the mold or changing the formula, I certainly hear the thoughts of fans. The impressions of fans that maybe it's getting a bit stale." so he knows, he knows.
3. Why it takes so much time to develop a new zelda game? "We take a long time analyzing the different parts of a game almost to our detriment. Almost too careful. I think the need is there for us to make decisions more quickly, weigh the risks [and] see what the payoff is."
4. Aounuma is not tired of zelda: "So, by no means, am I tired of it. Rather, the more we change it, the more I get fired up. Having someone think ‘Huh? Is this Zelda?!’ at first, then ‘Oh, it is Zelda,’ is what we’re going for. Something that wouldn’t make it matter whether Link or Princess Zelda appear in it or not. Something where it wouldn’t even matter if Zelda is actually a princess, or not. personally, i think that's a hint... or not.
5. Zelda wii u/nx will have elements from Hyrule warriors, Wind Waker HD, A link between worlds, Majora's Mask 3D and Triforce legends. Example: One aspect of Hyrule Warriors that really left a big impression on me was how the big bosses can actually move across the map while you’re fighting them. For example, you can have a boss start by heading toward your stronghold and you’ll attack and then follow them. That’s something you don’t usually see in a Zelda game because bosses are usually in enclosed spaces so that kind of gameplay feels fresh to me. It also works really well in an expansive world, which is what we’re planning to do for the next Zelda game. It’s going to be a really open world so that’s the kind of gameplay we’d really like to incorporate. - Aonuma
6. "The concept of the item will be completely different than what you've experienced before." what? what do you think?
7. Miyamoto said: "Because of the hardware limitations, what we always had to do was segment off each area and piece those segments together in a way that made them feel like a big world. But now with the hardware capabilities of the Wii U, what we did is we first started by saying, 'Let's see what we can do if we take an entire world the size of the world from Twilight Princess and just try to make that as one area in the game." :O!
8. Zelda Western RPG?: Miyamoto said: “I can't talk much about it, but one of the things we're working on right now is that, as you play, the world will change and be affected by what you choose to do.” Aonuma said: "the change in flavor will be like going from Japanese food to Western style food, and players will likely be surprised." Aonuma acknowledged that previous entries in the series have relied heavily upon the structure of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, calling it "the base of [their] secret sauce." However, this time, the team aims to "make something new like Ocarina of Time was" when it launched on Nintendo 64. Yup, I'm excited.
I'm sure there's more, so I'm going to keep looking.
My favorite quote? "If we don't change we might die. We need to evolve. Things need to change. Things need to grow."
so, what do you think? are you excited? are you worried? share your thoughts!
