Forums - Microsoft Discussion - A bold bold E3 prediction!

  • Announce a new Xbox  similar to the Steam box (2 models with and without disk drives)
  • MS will drop the Xbox One Name on it's own (Edit: To clear this up I don't think they drop the Xbox One itself but start to phase out the Xbox One name and support the Xbox One for the next few year. The new box could be something like "Windows Xbox One".  The following updated models could be something like "Windows Xbox One -add a word/version here-" Over time they will drop the "One" from the name as the transition fully to PC and drop support for Xbox One).
  • Will play PC and XB1 games
  • Upgraded versions will roll out as the years go by
  • Newer games will still play on older models but at a lower spec (similar to PC)

It's clear that MS want to go the PC route but also keep hold of Xbox live, this will allow them to do that.

MS seem really keen to get rid of XB1s in the channels, you may think it's to make way for a slim model but it seems far to aggressive. Are they clearing the "old" Xbox's to go a completely new direction?

Whatya think?!?

Hehehehe... no. Sorry, but this would've been leaked by now. Microsoft is horrible at covering footsteps. Also dropping the XB1?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Play PC games? no.
If they sell you a console at a loss, and you can install Steam, and just play steam games, MS makes no money.

Any games they sell you will be through Xbox / windows store.

I didn't say that you would be able to install Steam. It will keep the the XB1 UI (or something similar). And yes games will only be sold through the Xbox/Windows store.

Hehehehehe.. why not.

Think about it. We've had leaks and half guesses. New hardware, diskless harware, more powerful hardware. This could all point to my predicition. So in a way it could already be leaked but nobody has joined the dots.

This is a bold bold prediction afterall.

I guess thats possible, but it would be a bad move.First because of the backlash microsoft would suffer.Second because if people want to play games that have a more "PC format" they will buy a pc for that. And Steam will and is a better platform than microsoft will ever be(unless they really want, they need  to start making changes now).

I dont know.I think that, if they make all their games compatible with PC, XOne sales will simply die down over time. And no one will sign up for XBox Live when there is the better option(Steam).I..... dont see this working to be honest.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Nope. If the rumors are true it's supposed to be 2017 release. They won't even mention it at this years E3. Likely just the Xbox One mini and their TV box.

On the floor?

But seriously, it sounds like you are predicting that the y are going to announce a PC.  Like an actual computer.  But the rollouts would mitigate the benifits of PC.  If you have to buy an updated box every time.

Scorpio is another Xbox, so no.

A more powerful XB1 is rumoured for 2017.

What I'm saying is that they will release a "Steam Box" style Xbox One with similar a similar spec to the current Xbox One for a lower price. It will run something similar to the current XB1 OS and will play Xbox One games but also PC games sold through the Xbox/Windows store.

They will step away from the Xbox One name and call it something else but also keep the Xbox name. Windows Xbox or something like that.

This way MS has a foot in the console and PC market with one device and more importantly they will still sell Xbox gold subs.
