Forums - Nintendo Discussion - PS4Neo + XBScorpio ... Is NX Screwed?

It doesn't look too great right now for the NX, even though I do think they will correct a lot of the mistakes of the Wii U, much like Sega with the Dreamcast, they are headed into a hardware tsunami I think.

So you think Nintendo will make one final console then quit and go 3rd party?

Cause yes the NX is screwed and that's what I think will happen =P

No one is Apple. I wish people would just stop with this analogy, there is no Apple of anything, Apple is Apple, they are a unique situation.

If Nintendo was even 1/10th of Apple the Wii U and 3DS would be selling far, far better (or probably never would've been made in the first place).

Even Apple is largely just coasting off what Steven Jobs set into motion 10+ years ago, they succeed now because of their iconic fashion-brand status (particularily with fashion concious women) and extremely high end pricing. They are not a "toy/kids" brand association that Nintendo has.

Apple wasn't always post-iPhone Apple. Nintendo is pre-iPhone Apple right now. When NX comes out, they'll be post-iPhone Apple.

Mixed with Disney. And they'll coast off of that for 10+ years, just like Apple.

Not with underpowered hardware they're not. Sony/MS have the console market right now and it doesn't look to me like they have any intention of handing it over at all.

Even if for example Nintendo comes up with some new wonder controller, this time Sony/MS will almost certainly copy it very quickly.

This is the market now (unfortunately perhaps). Any kind of "innovation" that moves the needle will be copied immediately.

Is there any console market even left for anyone else?

Seems to me like Sony and MS are both basically oversaturated the market with product.

PS4/XB1 will become the cheap/entry level consoles.

Neo/Scorpio are the high end consoles.

VR is the new innovative way to experience games.

Mobile/tablet are killing it with casuals and devaluing that market by giving away free games.

It's just hard to see where Nintendo can find an audience here, really "sex gaming" seems to be the only thing Sony/MS/Apple/Android don't have covered, and Nintendo can't do that (can they?).

Blackberry. Sidekick. iPhone. No.

Nintendo is looking a lot more like Blackberry in this scenario.  I'm not saying that they will indeed go out of business, but things are looking bright for them right now.

Yes with underpowered hardware they will. Sony and MS won't have a choice.

First, they can't copy the NX as has been explained to you, and second, it'll be too late to copy the few things they could.

I personally think that the scorpio and PS4 Neo will actually backfire on them.I mean, it wont necesserally causa the PS4 or XOne to lose sales, but these new "itinerations" either wont sell well because they will be more expensive, people will already have a PS4/XOne and/or will just buy the cheapest version.Plus all the potential problems about performance on the simpler models being sacrificed. In another words, I think there is alot of room for error.

As long as Nintendo play their cards right, such as having a great first party lineup, having a good hardware, getting (at least) some third party on board and so on, Nintendo will do just fine.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

No they aren't. Blackberry was on top before the iPhone. Wii U isn't on top, PS4 is. They are Apple before the iPhone right now. (and before the itouch and such)

NX is their iPhone.

Software OS will never be a big factor in home consoles IMO because it can be copied.

Even your analogies are all over the place. The iPhone was a massive hardware revolution, the Blackberry didn't have a full touch panel with multitouch, nor did it have the brand momentum of the iPod (the previous most influential electronics gizmo of 2000-2005) behind it. The iPhone at the time of its release was pretty much unlike any phone on the market, it was also probably the highest end phone hardware on the market (huge ass screen compartively for one).

And actually the iPhone was copied. Android basically copied that and now has far higher market share.

The reason Apple is still successful with a minority marketshare is because as a luxury brand they can charge huge profit margins on their product.

Nintendo is nothing like any of this. The iPhone is not successful just because of an OS and it's laughable to think Nintendo will make an OS as revolutionary for a TV console with no dedicated OS department.

Why people are treating Xbox Scorpion, and PS4 Neo, as new Gen consoles ? they will just be the same consoles but more powerful, this isn't a new Gen, because all PS4 Neo, and Xbox Scorpion's games will have to run on previous consoles.

6 TFLOP vs. 1.2 TFLOP is basically pretty much a new generation device, it may have backwards compatibility but that's basically bordering on a new generation, that's a massive hardware leap.

XBox 360 (250 GFLOPS) to XBox One (1.2 TF) is a 5x performance leap, XB1 (1.2 TF) to XB Scorpio (6 TF) is pretty much the same leap.

Even the PS4Neo surprised me, 4 TFLOP console for $299 this year is pretty insane.
