Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX should launch bundled with a game, but not any one game! My idea!

*Just read the third paragraph for my idea if you're lazy

Okay as consumers we should all be saying it should launch with a game, but let's look at it from a more businessy and Nintendoy perspective. It seems like it's an expectation or trend now with two consoles in a row having launched bundled, but Nintendo is no stranger to breaking expectations, for better and worse, so I don't think that means anything. My reasoning is that I feel it's safe to say NX wont be more powerful than it's competitors, so it should come with a game to help make up for the value. They also just needa make the NX as desirable a product as possible from day one since people taking the wait and see approach could very well be the death of the thing.

There are two main issues with bundling though. The first is you'd ideally wait until after a game has made it's due before bundling it. Bundling immediately means you're losing out on the money it could've made by itself. I don't think this is much of an issue though since it's worth it to sell more consoles, but I bring it up since my idea on how they go about bundling solves this aswell. The second and main problem is the bundled game itself being appealing enough. If it's not, people will wait until a bundle comes that is, and again, NX needs to start off firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately there's no one game that appeals to everyone so this is impossible to fix... or is it!?

My idea is this, every NX comes with a digital download code for your choice of any NX game, and I don't just mean the launch games, but every game it'll ever get aswell! This means whatever game any person wants the most is bundled with NX, be it Mario, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, anything! Yes I did just say Pikmin there because even the more niche games likely have people willing to buy systems for them, and now they can without Nintendo having a poorly selling bundle! You wouldn't have to use the code instantly either, i.e. you buy a NX at launch in March then in November use the code for the midnight launch of Mario Kart 9, thus more reason to buy sooner rather than later. The profits lost from not selling a game by itself would now be divided between the NX's entire library so it shouldn't affect any one game too much. Additionally this bundle would be relevant throughout the NX's entire life so they'd never need to make another. One bundle to satisfy them all!

Okay this idea ain't perfect, not everyone has internet, but maybe they can make this work with retailers, atleast letting you hook your NX up to their internet just to download your bundled game. Still it's way better than bundling a specific game. As for how likely it is that Nintendo actually do this, mmm can't say, but perhaps the Mario Kart 8 deal was testing the waters!

just make a zelda bundle with a triforce design

Nothing like this would ever happen. Nintendo isn't a charity. There's a reason some games are bundled while others are not.

I like the idea, but the reality is this: ↑

But not everyone is a Zelda fan.

Something like this has already happened with Mario Kart 8.

I actually like this idea, but I doubt this would ever happen.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

No, it didn't.

It could work if it's within a given time limit. Like if they say it expires within 3-6 months after launch, then it might be fine since they would just release the big sellers after those months. And generally, launch is pretty eh in terms of software so it would be a good incentive for the customers to buy it.

But if its past 6 months after launch or for the lifetime of the NX... Then that would be a pretty big money sink...

It's not that terrible of an idea, but I don't think bundled titles are Nintendo's issue.

If you look at the Wii U, basically all of the major games were bundled at some point -- Mario 3D World, NSMBU, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Smash Bros. U, Mario Maker, hell even Zombi U.

Still didn't really sell the system no matter which bundle they had.

Nintendo's problems are with their overall software ecosystem as a whole.

You keep telling yourself that while I play on my free digital copy of Pikmin 3, and while we're at it, DKCTF aswell.

How does a bundle suddenly become a money sink after an arbitrary amount of time? It's usually later in a system's life that it gets bundles, and it's almost always bundled with big sellers.
