Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are we one year removed from a small horde of new Nintendo titles?

How many unannounced titles are coming in the next year with the Nx launch?

A lot 13 13.98%

A good number of games 27 29.03%

a few new games, a few ports 26 27.96%

port-heavy launch with a couple new titles 11 11.83%

few unexpected titles at all 7 7.53%

The Nx is really just a ... 9 9.68%

You are partially right. The drought started at around 2008. 3rd parites started to fill the gap a little after that. However I am not sure if people would include that in the drought or not. If you do then the drought ends at 2010 instead which is the 2nd half of the Wii's life. Nintendo did good in 2007 but after that not so much.

In 2007 Nintendo released 12 titles.
In 2008 it was 4.
In 2009 it was 5
In 2010 it was 10
In 2011 it was 6
In 2012 it was 5 (two were ports kinda)

Honestly they only got like two good years in terms of numbers. Anyway I remeber the drought in 2008,2009,2011 and 2012. They had more bad years than good years. So the wii at times did avoid the drought but not for most of its life. 3rd parties did good from 2009 to 2010 from what I remeber but nothing ground breaking.

Huh, thought they did better, my bads. 3rd party games are still games so they should definitely be counted. Must be why I didn't feel like there was ever really a drought, and the first 18 months for the console were just overflowing with games. Well still, I think it's safe to say Nintendo knows making games for two different systems is not gonna work anymore, hence unified library, which should guarantee third party support from atleast the Japanese.

A strong 1st, 2nd and 3rd party line up will be absolutely essential for Nintendo in the face of PS4 Neo, XBone 2 and VR development. If they launch with outdated tech that isn't X86 architecture and therefore destined to receive very few multiplats Nintendo will be in big trouble.

Done right maybe. But too many games done poorly at launch will hurt those game sales and it will turn into yet another first party effort.

Maybe besides Zelda, Nintendo should just not launch any other first party games in the beginning. Give third parties time to take root.

Isn't that what happened at the beginning of the WiiU's lifespam? They released Nintendo Land and NSMBU (and I think that was it at launch), while the rest were 3rd parties. And all of them sold poorly, and were unable to push the system. We all know the rest.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Didn't we already go through this with expectations for the Wii U? That since the Wii was abandoned, the Wii U would have an absolute smorgasbord of titles in the early years?

Yes, Wii 2011-2012. And the launch in 2012 was the beggining of the festival of delays and droughts for a new gen.

Like I have said 1000 times by now, this is why a unified platform is sooooooo important for Nintendo and hopefully will stop these droughts from happening.

2011/2012 really wasnt that bad from Nintendo 's internal teams and close affiliates, the problem was that their output was spread out across 4 platforms.

EAD Group 1 released Nintendogs+Cats & Mario Kart 7 on 3DS

EAD Group 2 released Animal Crossing: New Leaf on 3DS & Nintendo Land on Wii U

EAD Group 3 released Zelda: Skyward Sword on Wii

EAD Group 4 released NSMB2 on 3DS & NSMBU on Wii U

EAD Tokyo released Super Mario 3D Land on 3DS

Hal Labs released Kirby: Mass Attack on DS & Kirby: Return to Dreamland on Wii

ND Cube released Mario Party 9 on Wii

Sora LTD released Kid Icarus: Uprising on 3DS

Intelligent Systems released Fire Emblem: Awakenint on 3DS

Game Freak released Pokemon Black/White 2

2011/2012 wasnt bad, the problem was that these games were spread out on 4 platforms so hopefully 2017 onward, all releases will be for NX.

I hope so. A unifed library is their only solution.

Zelda is an unreleased game. the leaks point to nothing because they are nothing, there's no source for any of it. also, backwards compatibility covers everything.

There's no guarantee that this thing will even have an optical drive... why are you so certain it will have built in backwards compatibility? We know virtually nothing about the hardware.

lol there's no guarantee ps5/ps6/ps7... will even have an optical drive but we are supposed to expect every console will. Why am I certain about BC? Even the X1 got backwards compatibility with x360 through emulation and post launch. Nintendo will have less games to emulate and NX will be much more powerful when compared to wii u than X1 is to x360, making the emulation job much easier.

Seeing as the launch date is set to next year, along with their reasons, I see they are prioritizing getting a good line of games over trying to hit a specific date, which sounds like a good idea. They don't want to repeat things with the Wii U, so I feel they could have a pretty great line up with the NX releases, at least from Nintendo. Dunno about 3rd parties. Ninten will have to strike deals with them if they're gonna get good 3rd party support from the start as well.
