Forums - Gaming Discussion - DOOM is 86 on metacritic now, comments?

DOOM got up to 86 on Metacritic. Pretty good for a shooter! I mean, at the same level of Ratchet and Clanck and only a couple of points away from Dark Souls 3. I dont have it yet, but is it that good? Anyone that played it there that wants to comment?

It's great. It is exactly what it sets out to be: a run and gun, challenging, over the top shooter about battling the hoards of hell as an unstoppable badass. If you are tired of ducking behind chest high walls waiting for health to regen and want something fast, frantic, and fun, DOOM is your game.

Great graphics, both the Mars landscapes and the sulfur-choked hellscape are very pretty. Environments are very detailed and the lighting is excellent. The monsters are exceptionally well designed and animated. Glory kills highlight that and incidentally *speed up* rather than slow down gameplay as you are constantly encouraged to charge forward end engage up close for the sake of HP rewards. Chainsaw also does the same thing, as it rewards ammunition.

Level Design is excellent, lots of secrets and lots of verticality in the arenas and levels as a whole.  Zipping around these levels is way more engaging than the corridors of other shooters.  Also a lot of platforming interestingly enough, but it all works really well.  In fact I haven't seen conventional first person platforming this good since the Prime series.

Story wise, the narrative is a good framing device and the lore and background can be discovered and explored in a fashion similar to Metroid Prime. It's all solid stuff, some even really good stuff, but never gets in the way. And the way the silent Doom Slayer shows utter disdain for all the over-confident, arrogant characters you meet visually is very neat.

Multiplayer is solid stuff, but not the best. It's fun if you miss old Halo.

Snap Map is cool and has a lot of potential, should be engaging if you like level creators.

Well deserved. The game is like an fps arcade game almost, very fast-paced with no reloading of weapons and huge amount of enemies coming from all over the place. Loading times suck though :P.

Loading times is my only big negative. Other than that it is amazing.

Heard good things about the SP but bad on the MP. Seems like it's a rent at the most for me personally.

Side note: I hope Overwatch stays above a 90 meta, seems rare to see a shooter get above a 90 meta score these days.

It is waaaay higher than I expected. I honestly thought a game like Doom just wasn't enough to garner high votes anymore, especially as its focus is entirely on single player first person shooting. It's weird to think, but that's not exactly common anymore.

They definitely captured the Doom atmosphere and aesthetic perfectly, though, and it's a lot of fun (though please reduce the incentive for the auto-kill moves as I feel compelled to do them nearly every time). That's really my only complaint, otherwise it achieves exactly what it sets out to achieve and I can't imagine anyone will actually be disappointed by what they find.

For me it's a 90. The multiplayer is damaging his meta a bit, but it's more than ok for me. Solo campaign is absolutely GORGEOUS.

Tim and The Princes...

Really fun game. Quite challenging. MC score seems about right imo.

Awesome, I am loving the multiplayer so far, I m saving the single player for later, but it's an amazing game, best multiplayer this gen after rocket league. The score is great, I hope it will help it have legs

It's got the same score as the 2016 GOTY, so yeah, great score!
