Are things really that bad? What are your thoughts on this (this is adjusted for inflation and PPP, before you ask.)

Also 2 bucks a day in most part of the world, wouldn't buy you a lot in todays age, so I don't know.

There are a plethora of problems and it's worse in some areas than others, but considering that in some countries poor people are actually the fatter segment of the population (and I do realize it's unhealthy, but it's a lot healthier than the previous alternative), the number of malnourished has continued to fall and starvation is literally non-existent in most of the developed world (it was once a simple fact of life everywhere), I'd say things are not nearly as bad as they're often said to be.

All things human are relative, though, and as conditions continue to improve, such as things like houses, refrigerators, AC, cars, television, internet and so forth being now almost an expectation among people in countries like my own (USA), what was once a life superior to that experienced by Medieval Kings is now considered misery.

They are adjusted for inflation, and they'd actually go quite far in much of the world outside of those wealthier population centers.

It is adjusted for inflation, so in 1820 money 90% of the population was making much less than $2. Basic necessities like food, gas, housing, etc should be similar after adjusting for inflation. Of course, we have many more luxury goods today, and a lot more debt options.

For example on price of goods;

Good to see poverty on the decline overall.

I'd like to see depression levels though. I think that will be the real battle going forward.

yeah but they are still using 1820 standards of poverty LOL fake statistics i say

Look through the forum and discover the truth about how impoverished people really are.

There are threads about not being able to buy games! It's horrible!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

1) Higher res, no?

2) Methodology? In other words, does the change represent actual change of the poor or relative value of $?

3) Here's better pciture to see the dynamics, since a joule hundreed years ago is the same joule today, adjust if for Gini. Of course, you don't eat them but convert them into food, heat etc.

Also the image forecasts that by 2050 average level of energy conspumption won't exceed the levels of 1900s, which is rather optimistic view :D
