Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is there a bias against MP only games?

I think people forget that games with the most following are MP only games.
Actually, I'm willing to say that genre with the most following is the MP only. Come at me.

It definitely is. I agree 100%.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

MP only isn't a genre.

I came at you

There's a blurry line there. Moba is considered a genre but you are right as well, because I wanted to include Counter Strike in the mix.

I miss local multiplayer/bots. I was weaned on GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, TimeSplitters, etc. I just expect that stuff. Halo 5 ditching split-screen was a huge body blow.

I've been very critical of Guerrilla Games over the last decade, but one thing I love about that studio is its commitment to bot matches. I wish Guerrilla was the rule, not the exception.

Sorry to break itto you Vek but local mp is a thing of the past. At least here in the US, if a game doesn't have online mp component, it doesn't sell as well as the big dogs. People/kids don't go to each other's house to play games anymore.

Halo 5 splitscreen issue was blown out of proportion by a vocal minority, like many more issues that became a trend to hate on 343i. But that's another story.

I completely don't agree with this, considering that we still have nights here of gaming with Street Fighter 4/5, Killer Instinct and then going back to older systems for some Smash Melee or classic multiplayer games like NHL Hitz those games are still exceptionally good fun, it's unfortunate if you don't happen to have friends who live near you who are still fans of a bit of couch co-op or local multiplayer, but when a feature like local co-op is removed from Halo a series which for a lot of people was always played in local co-op they definitely gutted a portion of the game which would have made me consider picking up the X1 for it.

Maybe in the US the concept of gaming nights at a mates place is forgotten, but that doesn't mean that is the case everywhere.

Fuck it actually this whole thread is about an attack on other people having a preference for one type of game or the other, is it so hard to sit down and enjoy your games while other people sit and enjoy theirs? Like it was said by someone else, there is no request to remove online MP only games, just as long as there is the Local co-op or just Single player game options still there for those who enjoy those, the day everyone just enjoys 1 type of game or just 1 game will be a fairly sad and stale day for gaming.

It looks like you're attacking me for spurring a healthy discussion. I invite you to point out my attacks or others in this thread.

I played games in all types of ways and conditions, and of every genre. actually, all I play when I visit my friends back home is KI outside on a giant projection on the wall at night. Ten people passing around the controller.

Halo split screen issue, again,  was blown out of proportion. Create a thread if you wanna talk about that because we're already off topic.

As much as I want to play games more, the time I have is now limited because of so many things, so Single Player Campaign gives you the satisfaction of completing the game.

The past few threads that pit one game vs another or a different platform prove each week, month and year that people cannot enjoy what they like unless someone else is having a shit time. Also MP games on this site are largel looked down upon if you look around or read for long enough, lots of "hope it has SP, I hate MP" type responses over the years I've been on here.

It's like MP games cannot exist on their own legs the way an SP game is allowed to each time by default.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I am always behind on the latest games, so it is just not worth it to me to try and keep up with the latest fad multiplayer game. They will probably die off by the time I get around to them anyway.

They probably would. As long as there's a lot of content in the MP mode. AKA Cutscense, tons of MP modes: King of the hill, team death match, death match, capture the flag, co-op missions, time trials. Full character customization. Which would make the game worth it for $60 instantly. If I could have body system, like sims. And clothing system like Skyrim. I think that would be the correct way to expect $60 worth mp only. And get the least amount of compaints. I would like to see the characters back story, in Overwatch. Somehow. At least the hero info is readable, in game. No mess up like Destiny.

Hopefully the game does a Splatoon. The thing is. If Blizzard is coming with some great stuff later. Keeping silent is not helping people. Overwatch isn't perfect. But at the same time. It doesn't warrent full hate. Because TF2, even after all this time. The characters have nothing to them. While this game has done a lot of stuff towards 20.

Gamers on internet have a bias against MP only games. Although a minority, they're a good size of forum dwellers.

Some of the justification are that:

  1.   there's not enough content to justify a $60 tag,
  2.   there is no story or some form of campaign,
  3.   they're mostly aimed at dudebros
  4.   etc,...
Give me some argument for and against these type of games. And if you can find arguments against single player only games, drop it here.

I don't really understand the complaint here. Sure, there are people who like singleplayer games more than multiplayer games. But I don't see how that's unfair to multiplayer only/focused games, as they have their own fanbase anyways.
