This is like 2013 all over again isnt it?

"the console wars, begun they have"

PS4 neo = rumored 4.2 Tflops.
Xbox one ii = rumored 5.28 Tflops (4x xb1 (1.32) = 5.28)

Xbox to be slightly more powerfull, but maybe a year late to the party.
Also means this generation is gonna be really long.
Wont be a real Xbox Two or Playstation 5, until like 2020-21.

I wonder if this confirms the rumor that a slim version of the current designs is not economically viable, at least not in the long run. Will this compact design if the XBox One simply be a more efficiently organized model with the current 28nm apu, or did they actually manage to make a 20nm xbox one apu.

It seems both Sony and MS are switching to 14nm finfet apus and use the opportunity to reboot the 8th gen. It's going to be a long gen indeed. Looks like the NX is right on time. Maye we should we call it the 9th gen starting with NEO in September. Sucks to be a developer in the 8.5th gen, 5 hardware specs to support, 2 of which don't add any potential sales, and vr options as well. Plus who knows what special requirements Nintendo has up its sleeves this time.

I hope they keep hdmi in. It's been the killer app this generation for me.

I think the "slim" version of the Xbox One is still running on 28nm.

Its just better designed than the original version, which is a huge beast looking box, thats pretty oversized.

NX right on time? its rumored to be only slightly faster than the original xbox one.

They are again almost a "gen" of hardware behinde, right from the start.

Still that shouldnt impact them that much, because the other two, will still need games made to run on those weaker versions as well.

If anything I think NX chances of getting multiplats back, are better this gen.

Yeah times will get abit tougher for developers, not as much as you probably think though.

Like how on PCs how theres just option settings in games, Im thinking most of the "differnce" between the older and newer versions will just be like that.

Newer versions will just have slightly larger draw distances, AA/AF, higher base resolution ect, which probably isnt as much work as youd think.

The VR thing, is basically just setting the head movement to be the camra movement.

Im hyped for E3 :)  shame about nintendo lack of presence there this year though : (

Like I said in the thread i made a few months ago about this being the last true generation will probably be true. MS will release a xbox one that's a lot more powerful and it will probably have upgradable parts to ensure a huge install base in the future and they won't have to start over every 6 years. The PS brand will continue to release upgradable hardware and PSNOW will eventually start to support ps4 games, and maybe ps vita games. As for Nintendo NX will have a huge focus on streaming and subscription while allowing people to buy games physically and digitally. Also, they will probably continue to release SCD to upgrade their console will the latest hardware. As for their handhelds its will probably start to incorporate more smartphone tech and I could see a 4-5 year lifecycle for that. All the pieces are coming together..

If this the direction of consoles, what's the point. I can just go PC only.

Weren't the X360 and PS3 modified computers?

Also, these upgrades will continue to offer Plug & Play convinience of a console. it doesn't mean you'll be gutting a Neo or Scorpio and change its hardware  configuration.

Additionally, Microsoft said they'll pursue to make the next boxes pro/reatroactive, where customers will never have their games barred on their next upgrade.

I'll believe it when I see it. When DLC was first marketed to gamers it was going to be additional content for existing popular titles. Ultimately DLC wasn't what it was touted to be. Instead getting more expansive gaming experiences. The vast majority of DLC is just content ripped out of the base game and sold back to consumers. There are few developers that due DLC as originally intended but they are extremely rare.

The bulk of 3rd party developers can't even optimize their titles for one Xbox or PS4 platform. To think they'll be able to do the same for multiple incarnations of the same platform is just plain foolish. One of two things will happen. They'll optimize the games for the original platforms and the new renditions have games that sport minimal upgrades at best. Or they'll build the games around the upgraded platforms and the original platforms will receive poorly optimized messes.

That's a lot of speculations to tackle, be an optimist my friend, it makes you age slower and graceful.

This will be a fun E3. This has me excited.

I don't see a problem, the consoles are already under powered they need to be upgraded every 3 years with full BC

Next to PC, they'll always be "underpowered". So upgraded hardware won't changed that. Relative to themselves, however, they are what they've always been: fixed hardware.

I want to play FF15 at 60 fps but I don't want to play it on PC my only hope is for NEO to do this, though I think even NEO is too under powered based on rumors to achieve this.

I'm a realist. One only has to look at the poorly optimized games right now to get idea how much worse things will be when developers have multiple target specs. You think QA is bad now. It's only getting worse from here.
