Since when are japanese sales so bad?

Why is this not good from the PS4? It's up 50% from the same week last year, and that had a rather high profile release compared to what we had this week. |
Oh I see.Maybe my expectation was unrealistic.

Because a console with good releases being below 20,000 is bad? Given it just means the market is shrinking.

Around same week last gen:
Week Ending May 02 2009
Platform | Weekly (change) | Total | |
---|---|---|---|
DS | 55,190 | (+27%) | 26,440,886 |
PSP | 49,722 | (+23%) | 12,179,309 |
PS3 | 21,492 | (-4%) | 3,182,654 |
Wii | 20,794 | (+8%) | 8,018,082 |
X360 | 7,848 | (+28%) | 1,048,766 |
|
16,069 | 58,729 | 2 |
It is below PS3, all the other current hardware doing poorly and it has bigger latest release. That's not bad (as the other devices) but by any means is not great.

It had two tiny releases this week. That's it. No need to have unrealistic expectations to the Japanese console market when this has been the situation for years.

The situation is this generation more than the last generation is shrinking, and even more so than the generation before that. Plain and simple these numbers aren't great in my eyes, because the market is getting smaller, namely for my favorite market. I remember when the 3DS at 30k was bad. The norm use to be much higher.
Doom- Amazing game
Homefront- pile of shit
Homefront sells more than Doom- "ARRRRGHHH"
The PS4 is still ahead of the PS3 and up YoY so the market is definitely not shrinking for Playstation consoles.

Lol, you are comparing this week to 2009 golden week to make this week look worse than it is. Here's the actual same week last gen:
DS | 37,253 | (-6%) | 26,576,584 |
PSP | 28,018 | (-5%) | 12,279,820 |
Wii | 15,177 | (+8%) | 8,069,594 |
PS3 | 10,116 | (-4%) | 3,220,186 |
X360 | 4,370 | (+18%) | 1,062,024 |
So the PS4 is higher than any home console in the same week last gen.
The Japanese gaming market took a hit after a electronic tax right. So comparing 7th gen and 8th gen is a bit unfair. Anyway the aligned gap between PS3 and PS4 is around 100k and the PS4 is catching up. Mainly the handhelds dissapoint, but the DS was a monster and the PSP sold very well. Might outsell even the 3DS. The Vita sells in Japan but overall it is doing very poor in comparison to the PSP.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
