SC was announced in 2012 and people have been spending a fortune on "modules" and fundraising the crap out of it, while it's still unclear when and if it will ever get released.

We will have to see, of course, but at the moment it's a buggy mess, the FPS part module got canned, and I can totally understand that people are pissed and are asking for their money back.

Star Citizen is going to be a big game. Big games take many years of development, especially if you have to start from scratch and can't use huge parts of the assets of the last game.

And no, the FPS part didn't get canned!

Only a tiny fraction are "pissed and are asking for their money back", led by the "pissed" developer Derek Smart with his own glorious library of game releases: http://www.metacritic.com/company/3000ad-inc

The number of "star citizens" is at 1.4 million people and still growing.

I dunno man. If they can really pull this off then it's no doubt the best game ever made. But lets be honest here, when a game manages to raise nearly 100m in crowdfuning and 5 years later it's still just a buggy mess of incoherent modules, some red flags are bound to pop up. Especially when you hear that they are running out of money.

November 2012 - May 2016 are 3.5 years, not 5 years.

I think Uncharted 4's extremely fluid animations push it ahead of any other game I've seen. It may be bested in textures, AA, enviromnental detail, etc, but those animations are freaking stellar!

Of course there are tons of console games that get delayed all the time and sometimes even canned, but Star Citizen is a bit of a different animal though. The game is practially the Water World of video games. It all does sound fantastic but to me it also sounds like the developers bite off more than they can chew with the game. SC was announced in 2012 and people have been spending a fortune on "modules" and fundraising the crap out of it, while it's still unclear when and if it will ever get released.

I need only look at TLG and FF XV to know that other studios much bigger with lots more money have also bitten off more than they could chew for a very long time in the gaming world.

I've played Elite Dangerous for 1.5 years already, funded after Star Citizen.
SC is not the worst thing I backed though, 2 guys space venture is also still not out.

I was very excited for Star Citizen 3.5 years ago, it's kinda gone away.
DIGITAL SCOUT: A digital copy of the finished game for your PC with your RSI Aurora spaceship ready to fly + 1,000 Galatic Credits
Is that even enough to get started with the game anymore? So many ships, insurance and what not have been sold after. 1,000 galactic credits is probably worth less than a Rupiah. Doubt I can download the finished game either with my bandwidth cap :)

yes pc CAN have the best looking game its a fact,  but this is also pretty much what every pc only gamers are ignoring in this thread.

it CAN doesnt mean it DOES

sure pc can look great with its limitless potential, but the matter of the fact is, no developer is developing that best looking game on pc.  as of right now 99% of the game on pc are just console ports with extra settings.

There is no games on pc that is truly "next gen" that are leaps and bounds graphically superior than console, because all the pc games are console ports thats bound by the limitation of the console hardware.

look at the best looking games on pc vs console, witcher 3, battlefront for instance, sure they look better than console, thats a fact. but they does not look "next gen" even on the higest setting.  yea they r better, but not much better.  a pc thats 10x or 20x more powerful than a console but is only graphically superior maybe 30% at the highest settings. hows that for the price-gain ratio?

not to mention the mass majority of pc gamers run on a rig thats only slightly better than ps4 (ie only able to run high on games like witcher 3).  cant remember the numbers but steam did survey and more than 60% of pc gamers are running medium range pc. so yea, for all the glory of pc masterrace, they are really the minority here.

and its not really the "master race" if the mass majority is running a rig that runs a high setting witcher 3 at 40 fps and laugh at the 30 fps medium-high setting ps4. and i see a lot of these so call pc master race doing just that lol.

I haven't seen anyone here claim there are games on PC that look "next gen" compared to UC4, just that there are games that do look better, so I'm not sure why you brought that up.

And the specs that mass market PC gamers play at aren't really relevant as the thread clearly addresses the so-called "master race", as in high end users.

True, it happens all the time, but at least those are not crowdfund games. I mean they have raised nearly $100m for Star Citizen and there is a big chance that the game never even gets a release. They keep adding new ships that people can spend a fortune on and add insane features (a whole alien language.. I mean, come on..) yet they are forgetting to build a game to put them in.

Anyways, if we are talking about why UC4 is the most impressive game when it comes to the overal visual package, Star Citizen is really not the game people should mention to prove otherwise as the game is one big incoherent mess. Someone asked what we should compare Star Citizen with, is it a MMO, space sim, FPS? Fact is, we don't fucking know because its trying to do everything and that's the problem.

You should probably play games like Freelancer to understand what Star Citizen is trying to achieve.

Star citizen should not have went after great graphics and instead focused on its scope. Unless they can gain another 50mil or so from crowdfunding or a company funds them the game will never be completed. No mans sky had the right idea visually.

Yea, I just hope they're still in time to change their course and deliver the game. Another game that started development roughly in the same period, Hawken, and that had a troubled and long way, even losing its original publisher, found another one and it looks like it could be in the last stages of Steam Early Access phase, so maybe there's still hope for Star Citizen too, but Roberts should stop NOW frantically adding stuff that risks delaying launch forever or at least postpone it until after launch: if they'll finally manage to launch the game, they still can expand the game universe and add missions, campaigns, new ships, etc. later, just like Bethesda successfully did with Fallout 3 and almost the whole The Elder Scrolls series and it's still doing with Fallout 4.

To be honest I could say the same for the Ark devs, those guys keep adding so much stuff in the game with constant patches landing nearly every day and yet the game still hasn't had it's heavy crunch period for optimization, the last few weeks before release aren't going to iron out all they have added in and those guys didn't have SC's level of funding.

As long as devs keep their time allocated and act on it then they can make a good game whether it be boasting good or bad visuals.

Also if SC never went for graphics then we would very easily be seeing the constant rigmarole of "PC has no good graffix games" arguments all the time.
