Although i never expected anything good from this movie I quite enjoyed Duncan Jones' work before.

so our last hope is assassin's creed ? Save us Ubisoft

The train of video game flops keeps chugging along I guess. Next up? Assassin's Creed.

It's almost like, after this and the Ratchet movie, film critics don't like games.

It's probably, like Ratchet, a decent movie that is getting flak for its source material.

I just had the same thought. It almost seems like film critics want to be above poor gaming stories (even though many of today's films have really weak stories) XD

Next up is Assassin's Creed, I believe. Let's see if that'll be the one breaking the curse and becoming the first ever well reviewed film based on a game.

What with how that film mostly takes place in modern day I have a slight feeling that one isn't gonna get much love either.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Funny 'cause I think that's the main thing that gives Ass Creed the movie hope of breaking the video game movie curse. It might not click with Ass Creed fans, but as they are aonly a tiny fraction of the moviegoing public pissing off the game fans but having good appeal to the wider movie audience is a good thing.

It gives it a chance on paper, in a vacuum. However, at least what I've heard seems to counteract that. Fassbender, to paraphrase, said dismissively about that reveal (which happened far too late to NOT be suspicious - just like not sending review copies or having a day and date embargo) something to the tune of "of course it's different, it's a movie silly!"

Unless it's some conspiracy styled film in present day and then at the end of act 2 Fassbender enters the animus to find the final clue to [X], I cannot see it feasibly working in any way that critics or the general public can enjoy. The ratio just isn't right to me for me to give it the benefit of the doubt, all things considered.

I actually am a fan of Duncan Jones, and I don't trust critics when it comes to video game movies...or really much at all. So I'm going to see it anyway. Don't let reviews guide your opinions.

I've been concerned for quite some time that this could prove to be a huge dud... When you see the full complement of characters and the portion of Warcraft's history they're trying to tell, that's just faaar too much to introduce and do justice for in a single film.

That and the majority going to see the film won't have played the MMO let alone all those reviewing the film. The film has to be based off of the MMO's story driven lore, so reviewiwers saying "well it should be able to stand on it's own legs" doesn't even know how WoW works, if it were to tell a completely different story then it simply wouldn't be WoW and like the majority of video game movie adaptations, they all diverted away from the source lore material and they all ended up flopping one way or another.

Video game movies for the most part just won't click with the casual audience who don't know nor play any of the games the movies are based on. I expect Creed to also suffer and from the looks of the trailer, the movie itself seems to be stepping away from how the story started with the first game, a sign that already shows of a bad film adaptation.

I like WoW and it's world/lore, so bad movie or not I'm still going to go watch it with a few mates.

Seriously, a political action movie that has a plot based in the present but where the main character uses a device to access genetic memory of being an assassin, probably to be able to learn mad assassin/stealth skillez, sounds like an interesting premise. The only reason you don't like the direction of the movie is because you want to see a movie of the game. And Fassbender was right to say what he said. It's a movie, it necessarily needs to be different otherwise it's guaranteed to be crap. This way it has a chance of no sucking. But I still think it will probably be not very good.
