Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is the argument of a Wii Hard Drive still warrant discussion?

With SD cards getting more and more room (now up to 16 and 32 GB) do we really need a hard drive? For less than a hundred bucks you can get a 16gb SD card and be set for a long time. And most owners will never need that much space.

More is better.

Cheaper is better.

There is always room for discussion.

last i heard they couldn't do the big cards yet

but not sure if its b/c of hardware of software

Yeah, $100 is a lot of money considering what the Wii costs.

The idea is to be able to save without having to buy anything extra or understand anything. The saving of progress should be seamless. You shouldn't even have to notice it.

hm.....does the wii support 16 and 32gb sd cards??

if yes, there is no need for a hard drive, but Nintendo may need to use wii's sd card slot for good!

I don't think SD cards will solve anything, as transferring stuff to and from them is almost as annoying as constantly re-downloading. What we need is something that increases the amount of space that can be in active use, not just storage base.

It's pretty obvious Nintendo will do something like this eventually (gee, I wonder if they'll prefer to have people putting a strain on their servers with constant re-downloading and costing them money, or buying expensive hard drives and making them money...), but they're sure taking their time. ;__;

Wii only supports up to 2GB cards I believe, and won't let you play directly off of the cart so it doesn't really help. But yeah if they could make that work then it'd be as good as a hard drive solution.

 the only people that will be looking at this are gamers and not eh casual market.....so your agument is moot  the only time you would need the extra card is if you are gettign extra material from the VC or wii ware, not from games

When I can buy a 2GB SD card for under £4 I don't see any need for a hard drive.. run out of space? Spend another £4.

^good point--you just need to label them and keep track

mind you not everyone will go for that
