A reformation.

Many muslims nowadays have allowed more inserted modern thoughts into their ideology, allowing them to live peacefully with non-muslims without any issues. Unfortunately, there are still muslims who have a backwards way of thinking.

Solution? Stop telling people it isn't "real islam" and let the reformation finally begin. I see people who criticize those who want to reform, saying "that's not true islam", but they'll criticize people who preach "true islam". I mean, no offense, but don't expect to see Islam die for a long time. It also is tied with culture for many people. You can't expect Islam to magically disappear.

We're slowly going to a point where the 'extremists' are considered nuts and are shunned by most people. If we continue on this path and wipe out the dangerous ideas, then we'll be closer to less problems from religion. Christianity has done it, there's no reason Islam can't

Uh...no, that wasn't what I said at all.

I said a reformation. I could dwell into ways we can do that, but  I thought giving the general idea would be good enough.

There are many ways we can push towards a more modern version of Islam.

I think the real solution is wealth. Get muslims up to Western standards in places they're not and over time they'll end up similar to the west.

I know a lot of Muslims who are well off from university and I can tell you they don't act like muslims are supposed to behind their parents back. But if they were growing up in a poor part of Iraq or Afghanistan out in the country side the extremist ideals might appeal to them because their life is pretty shit.

The solution is education, obviously. Just give it 50-75 more years and they will evolve out of their barbaric intolerance.

Seriously though, you can't force them to follow a different "kind of islam" cause that'd mean they can be reasoned with and that's not how extremists work.

Just westernize the middle east.

The solution is education, education and more education. And I don't mean the Saudi-Arabian version where Islam is 90% of the curriculum. I mean proper education, especially in sciences.

EDIT: And I don't mean to try and educate the current extremists. Those are for the most part unfortunately a lost cause. What I mean is that in a society where everyone gets a proper scientific education (which in turn also leads to the society evolving as a whole), extremism will have a much harder time to spread at all, and will fizz out.

People who hate all Muslims want division. It's in there interest to label the countless Muslim's who don't conform to their stereotype 'not a real Muslim'.

Extremists are already considered nuts by most people; including most Muslims (Muslims being the demographic which are the victims of Islamic terrorists over 90% of the time).

Sanction saudi arabia is the solution. They export most extremist ideas, at least the people who rule the country and have the power there. Also all islamic extremist terrorist attacks so far were always done by Sunni muslims (Saudi Arabia) not Shia this is a fact.

Our econimies are too dependant on Saudi Arabia's oil. We're stuck with them as our friends. 

Hezbollah is shia and they're acused of a number of terroist attacks and I believe there are others, but there are big diffrences in the behaviour of sunni and shia terrorists.
