Forums - Sony Discussion - I really dislike the PS4's menu layout.

It works well if you don't switch games too often, the main problem I have is with the PSStore not the actual OS, the store is one big dump of never finding what you need or want

The snappiness and game install speed helps me ignore things I might dislike because they were the most annoying things on the PS3 for me.

Edit:  I'll add while the store tries to keep me from finding things because of it's weird layout it's much faster than the PS3 so I'd rather have the speed.

The download speed is much faster for me than on the PS3.

These 4 things are far more important to me and they're light years improvement over the PS3.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

Marco....

They could allow you to, at least, pin some items at the top of the menu, like the Video menu or other apps.

I would also like to have the option to group items. If you want to play a game that you didn't played for a while, you have to open the Library and search there. As I always redeem my PS Plus games even if I won't download them for now (using the store website), my Library is huge.

I am satisfied coming from ps3.

At least is fast, auto download updates and the rest mode is pretty neat.

The ps3 was soo slughish I think ps4 is heaven compared.

I think he is complaining only about how they are distributed in the UI. The speed, auto download and other features are great. As it is, it still is much better than the PS3. But it can be improved.

Truth.

It's super responsive and gets the job done but there are just so many apps I either don't use of don't even have that still take up space from the things actually want to use. Actual apps I do use like Hulu, Netflix, and Twitch never make it to the main menu. Instead, things like PS vue and Spotify get the best real estate.

No rhyme or reason?

I disagree. First off when you start up your PS4 the main menu list the last 15 activities in order of use. The lower menu is all the activities, social info and content info associated with that particular activity. The PS store is always the far left icon on the main menu. The top menu is static and predictable and is all the system related functionalities. It has a scheme that is intuitive but as with anything else it's not perfect.

As far as not being appealing. Yeah, it could use some robust customization tools. Customizing arrangements, being able to "pin" an activity in place would be a welcome additon IMHO. I'm always a fan of having the ability to modify or change things to an individual liking.

Yeah, the store is horrible, really horrible. Messy UI, clunky search function with poor relevance algorithms and a fairly poor selection of games for a 20+ years old gaming machine concept.

I've responded to this repeatedly. Some of those "last 15 activities" are activities I haven't ever used or activities I don't even have downloaded. That's the problem. If they were just the last things I've used in order, I'd have no reason to complain .

I don't have PSVue downloaded. I've never attempted to use Spotify. I don't have a camera so I've never used play room. I don't use PlayStation video (or whatever it's called). That's the problem!

I agree, but Sony doesn't care. They want to try and force us to subscribe to every service the ps4 has.

Whats new is a waste of time. None of this is "new". Someone played game x or y. Who cares? It's like playing big brother.
Then there the apps that you don't have installed and aren't interested in that just won't leave the dashboard. Completely unnaceptable.

But this comes from the same company that doesn't let you turn off the huge light on your controller.

+1

I dislike the PS4's layout, even if you can still get around. They just make it take more steps than necessary.

The BuShA owns all!

Odd, I don't have a limit on the number of icons on the menu bar and haven't seen spotify, ps now, vue, playroom etc in forever. Now and then I dig up the screenshots and tv/video icon again that have migrated to the right but otherwise it's all games. Perhaps when you limit the nr of icons it still distributes the useless stuff in there and hence appears closer to the left.

I hardly use the menu though, either the game I want to play is already in or I pop the right disc in and it's always the first option. I have the ps4 and game started before my projector warms up.

The only thing I wish would go away is the mandatory profiles for local multiplayer. Who cares who turns on a second or third controller, just add player 2, 3. Then the wrong profile starts the game and all the save games are missing, restart again.
