Gran Turismo Sport beta has been cancelled

Kazunori Yamauchi "very, very, sorry" but beta would have pushed the game into 2017.

The planned beta for Gran Turismo Sport has been cancelled in order for the game to launch this year, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has told VideoGamer.

The beta had been announced alongside the game back in October 2015.

"That's something that I'm very, very sorry about," said Yamauchi while talking about the beta. "In order to do a beta test we have to make a gold master of the beta test code, and for us it actually takes as much effort as to finish the real master code of the actual game.

"Just because it's beta we can't just throw it out there. It's required that in order to do an open beta we have to create a proper master for it, and considering the release timing that we announced, we decided that we just don't have enough time to do two gold masters for the game. By omitting that it saves us about three months of time."

Asked to clarify if this meant there would be no beta, Yamauchi added: "Most likely I don't think it would be possible. I'm very sorry but that's just how it turned out."

I think the luke-warm perception is the cause

A rushed game it is then.
Polyphony continious to be Sony's most overrated studio quality wise.
Might get it next year after it's patched a few times and if the VR mode is any good or if it's just halfdone which would not suprise.

PD is getting a bigger joke ever since they released GT5, yet Sony closes ES and LS, while PD is off to it´s next blunder. If you work for Sony you better be a Japanese studio, since you will get away with anything look at this and TLG.

They managed to deliver excellent games on several consoles and had several years to build a Gran Turismo for a new system. I can't imagine what went wrong when GTS is the outcome of this.

I expect huge server issues if they don't get a chance to test everything with a beta before launch.

Many games release with online parts with no Beta (CoDs generally never did until BO3), Beta's are usually only really stress tests anyway, the games are usually complete and done by then. PD are saying, doing one and building it would take up time when they could just build the actual game and get it out (if it's finished it's finished, no point wasting time with beta when a fair chunk of your userbase won't even play online straight away).

They will no doubt be doing internal and alpha testing anyway.
