Forums - Movies & TV - Some anger over AVGN (James Rolfe) refusing to review the new Ghostbusters

The honest truth, it seems the vocal minority are just that vocal minority. You can see his video here:

As you can see his Like and Dislike ratio is not that bad and no where near the level that I thought it would be when I read this thread.

I was definitely expecting worse as well. Mainly a vocal minority for sure which is good. Glad his video won't suffer and will actually only get more views!

Go, James, go! I'm exactly in the same boat. I don't care that the cast is female. I think Paul Feig is super-overrated, and having to reboot Ghostbusters is a travesty. Nothing in that trailer looks like it can hold a candle to the original. Why should James have to waste his time? When it's all said and done, groups of people are going to be pointing fingers at each other why this movie failed when the answer is obvious... Sony shouldn't have remade Ghostbusters.

Nice job with all the idiots attacking him for the Star Trek V standup.

I can't blame James I would do the same if I would be a huge fan of something and something new comes out and looks really shitty than I wouldn't watch or play it

Having to review anything as as job must not be easy.

Not everybody has the chance to review games like Mario Galaxy, Uncharted or Halo.

Sometimes you have to review something that you know in advance that will be shit, and being objective must be super hard.

On the other hand, James is his own boss and he can skip that movie if he wants. I don't see what is the big deal some guys are making over this.

BTW, i fully recommend his Youtube channel. He is one of the few guys that are in love with our hobby, and it show in its content.

He is a little bit too much nostalgic for my taste, but i can respect that. I just wish he could experience more recent games instead on focusing entirely on classic games.

I realize there is a cause for overall concern. But I feel this movie is getting a ridiculous amount of hate just simply because it is different from the original. I get being apprehensive to the movie but does it really deserve to be the most disliked video on youtube?

Here is the thing, the first one has vocal minority in your example. The second one has a vocal majority. The main thing about the second one is that trailer was awful, it was not funny and honestly seemed like Pixels 2.

People may disagree with him, but those are some seriously childish reactions to his decision. I have the same kind of thought towards the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies; the last one was shit, I won't even watch the next one that's coming, but will fondly remember the old ones with glorious nostalgia glasses.
I wasn't hugely impressed with Star Wars either, this is hardly groundbreaking that a fan of something is disappointed with the way an IP is handled, it happens in gaming all the time.

The all female cast isn't a problem for me; the fact that it was the main selling point was more of an issue, they seemed more keen on making social commentary than a quality movie in a beloved franchise. Not unlike the debacle around the belated expansion to Baldur's Gate, which got both needless hate and a lot of warranted, proper criticism.

People have a problem telling the two apart, it seems.
