Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why would Super Smash Bros 4 come out for NX when NX will back backwards compatibility?

This doesn't make sense to me. Eversince the Wii, Nintendo always had backwards compatibility. I can't see Nintendo not having this feature for their next console... Like why would they? I hope they dont make us pay for games we already own just like how Playstation did.

But what will they do for people to get the more expensive NX version instead of Wii U version? WIll do they do some kind of big dlc? What do you guys think?

I know its a rumor that Smash for Wii U will be released for Wii U. But its a rumor that can come true.

And what if we can't play Wii U titles on NX?
It looks like this is the logic reason to release a SSB remaster

If the NX is not backwards compatible, we'll see a port of Smash U to push initial sales and to keep that game selling. If it's backwards compatible, we still might see a "Special edition" of sorts, with all the DLC included. So yeah, it's coming.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

So just because there last two consoles were backwards compatible means all their consoles have to be backwards compatible? I don't think so myself.

Because Modern Nintendo has started to pick up on all of the cheap practices other companies have been pulling over the last decade+, that's why.

N64 and Gamecube says hi! BC made sense with Wii because it was just kind of just an overclocked gamecube. It was also a risk so made sense they played it safe when it came to catring to fans. Made sense with Wii U as they wanted to carry over Wii's 100m audience...

The NX may not feature a disc drive, in which case BC probably won't be built into the hardware and instead will come in the form of digital software emulation down the line.

Wii U doesn't have many games so instead of incurring the cost of emulation, why not make money from the 3-4 games that people will actually want to play and release them as remasters.

Wii U games won't sell NX hardware, so why not repackage of them as NX titles to help push the system and its presence in stores etc.

Why wouldn't they toss BC? Sony did 2 consoles with BC and then built a new platform. Nintendo can now do the same. I wonder if there has ever been a console manufacturer that did more than 2 BC consoles in a row.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Also, even if it doesn't get WiiU BC, it could always have 3DS backwards compatibility. After all, with all the rumours of the NX using cartridges, it may be better to keep those games around instead of the WiiU ones, that can always get a quick and cheap remaster.

Maybe NX is not backward compatible?Have you thought about this?

Not only that, but Smash 4 has alot of DLC.They could very well just a want a re-release with all the dlc in one package for the NX, even if it has backward compability.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I swear you wrote this thread a couple months ago.

Or I have traveled back in time.
