Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza Motorsport 6 NASCAR Expansion out now

I skipped the NASCAR segments in GT, never saw the appeal of this sport at all. I also find Formula 1 to be a lot less interesting than rally, for instance.

Using the Nascar cars on the Nordschleife was fun occasionally, driving in ovals is not.
$20 for 24 cars and 1 new location, kinda steep. Perhaps there will be a gotg edition by the time I get One.

I don't know why a few care about certain things on the video and I dont know why they care so much about it to just make a thread about it.

'Care' isn't a word I would normally associate with something as flippant as games. I was just surprised that Forza had sold more than GT. I didn't realise it wasn't true. If you're going to put it into a 'fanboy' bracket, you'd have to see it as a 'pro XB1' thread when you bare in mind the intent.

When my relatives used to come over for the holidays I'd break out Gran Turismo and then ... sigh as they'd continue to pick NASCAR vehicles and races over and over.  Those were the most boring options in the entire game but it's easy to see how the simplicity of it has its fans with casual gamers.  I put them on Laguna Seca and they spend half their time in the sand or run straight through S-curves.  On ovals, though, they're just happily bumping into each other (and the walls) and talking about Ford or Chevy being the best (heh).

Of course, I'd eventually bring out a real monster and smoke them all.

It hasnt YET outsold GT6. With Sales theres no finish line. Games can continue to sell for aslong as the Devs want it to. Forza could do a PS2 and continue to sell for 15 years. Just for easy numbers.

Forza came to market in 2005.

Since being in the market, the last 11 or so years, no racing franchise has sold more games or has been as active in creating and releasing new games. As a result you can conclude that in terms of relevancy to the automotive market , Forza as a franchise has been more involved catering to the community, working with car manufacturers promoting new cars, etc..

So i would say their statement is not false or misleading given that context.

GT games may have sold more lifetime, but the bulk of GT sales have occurred during other eras long ago with no direct competitors as well. I particularly feel the way Polyphony pulled the servers on GT5 after selling 10M while you could still play Forza 2 , 3, 4 online...just speaks volumes in regards to consumer support.

Obviously a lot  would change when the next GT drops and sells 10M off the bat.

Damn, this actually makes me want an Xbox One now. I'm a HUGE Nascar fan and the fact that there hasn't been a game on current gen yet is killing me.

The problem with GT (And I'm assuming Forza is going to have the same issues) is that oval racing is VERY different from grand prix racing. They have to fully commit to modeling the physics, tracks, and aero to suite how the cars drive. Not to mention that the AI can't just be moving road blocks since oval racing is all about racing around other cars.

I've yet to see a game other than iRacing do justice to oval racing and honestly a big part of that is the fact that you have to race real people and not stupid AI cars. Ovals are super boring when you are by yourself but when there are nearly 40 cars on a 1.5 mile track and your constantly racing not only the track conditions but also have other racers on every side of you it's really fun.... until you crash lol.

The video was about the release of the NASCAR expansion not about Forza vs Gran Turismo. There are other racing games out there and not just these 2 franchises. Again nothing to get worried about just a release to a Forza related topic.

The subject matter is pretty similar, though. The only major difference is that your topic focused on a specific part of the video. But it is still based on the same video, which is where the "dupe" part of it comes from.

Fair enough. I only posted it because I was surprised by the info in the vid. Of course I didn't realise it was simply PR. With that in mind, I really don't want to continue the conversation here myself. It's hard enough trying to tow an objective line when you focus entirely on one platform, and adding to the idea of me being selective in my thinking would damage the small amount of reputation I've managed to garner on this site. I know this will surprise some but it won't surprise others and it's the others I'm concerned with. This is why I tend to stay out of games threads for the XB1 on ALL forums.

"I didn't realise that Forza had sold more than GT. I'm impressed."

On-Topic: I am not a big fan of Nascar when it comes to gaming but the trailer looked really nice. I think it's definitely a DLC focused on the american userbase which is fine. Perhaps some will have a huge interest in Europe, too.

Why did you feel the need to do that? You haven't proved anything here, you've just once again made me realise why I never think it's worthwhile having a conversation with you.
